JK CM calls for revoking suspension of 2 NC Legislators
‘Opposition’s role is to oppose, depose and expose’
Srinagar, October 7,(Scoop News)-J&K Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Wednesday urged the Speaker for revoking suspension of two National Conference (NC) legislators, who were suspended yesterday for disrupting the proceedings of the Lower House.
He said with NC boycotting the rest of the Autumn Session of the Legislature, a healthy debate on important issues concerning the people cannot be deliberated upon. “Opposition’s role is to oppose, depose and expose,” he said and added that the Legislature is the right forum to discuss all issues of public importance.
The Chief Minister was speaking during Question Hour in the Lower House today.
Describing democracy as a battle of ideas, Mufti Sayeed asked NC legislators to reconsider their decision and return to the Legislature. “We are here to debate. The government wants to respond to their queries,” he added.
Appreciating the role of the Speaker in trying to restore order in the House for the last two days, the Chief Minister recalled the constructive role played by PDP while it was in the opposition. “Amidst utter pandemonium, you tried to restore the dignity of the House,” he said, while referring to frequent adjournments of the House proceedings due to ruckus created by the opposition.
Later, the Speaker revoked suspension of the two NC legislators, Altaf Ahmad Wani and Abdul Majeed Bhat.
Intervening on a question raised on healthcare facilities in Reasi, Mufti Sayeed said Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is constructing a super-speciality hospital with required paraphernalia in the district, which will address the needs of advanced medical treatment of the people residing there.
While responding to another query raised by MLA Kupwara, regarding District Hospital, the Chief Minister stressed upon highlighting the shortcomings in healthcare institutions rather than getting into the nitty gritty of nomenclatures.
