| AAC to observe October 10 as 'Prisoners Day' | | felicitates Mirwaiz on being named among World's 500 influential Muslim leaders | Srinagar, October 7, (Scoop News)-Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (ACC) would organise a program on Saturday to pay tributes to the political prisoners for standing up against alleged despotic rule in Kashmir.The day would be observed as prisoners day.
According to a press statement on Wednesday, AAC held deliberations to give a final shape to the programme and decided that the members of all its constituents would meet after Friday afternoon sermon and prayers at its headquarters, Mirwaiz Manzil.
The programme would be addressed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyat leaders who would shed light on the importance of observing the day every year, it said
They would pay tributes to Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammed Farooq, who, as a 20-year-old, showed the way by standing up against the oppression and tyrannical rulers in 1965 and fought for truth invoking the wrath of the oppressive rulers who made him a political prisoner, the statement added.
The leaders would also pay tributes and express solidarity with other political prisoners serving jails and detentions across Kashmir and in different Indian jails, it said.
Meanwhile, AAC has greeted Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for the honour of being selected at number nine in the list of ‘Top-10 Muslim Leaders’ of the world and for being named among 500 most-influential persons. It (statement) claimed that Mirwaiz is a beloved leader of the people and popular among them because of his political and diplomatic efforts of representing the aspirations of people at different platforms throughout the world.
The statement said the Mirwaiz had put in selfless efforts in the religious and political fields as well as rendered social services and put in strenuous efforts for the secessionist movement in Jammu Kashmir and thus the honour given to him by RISSC, Jordon was a deserved one.
