CEC & councilors visit flood affected areas of Leh district

Leh, November 19 (Scoop News)- The Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa along with Executive Councillor Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, and Councillor Skyurbuchan Phunchok Stanzin, after the formation of the new council, for the first time visited the flood affected areas of Dha-Bema and Skyurbuchan today to take stock of the on-going work of rehabilitation.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tadpar Joldan; Superintendent Engineer PWD Leh Tashi Chombel; Executive Engineer Special Sub-Division Khaltsi; BDO Khaltsi; and officials of concerned departments also accompanied the CEC.
At Bema, CEC Dr Dawa, empathizing with the flood-affected villagers, appreciated their patience and assured of every possible help and early redress of the natural havoc. He further said that the debris from the fields will be cleared before the next sowing season.
Dr Dawa gave instructions to the Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control to immediately submit a proposal for a permanent solution for the damaged canals that can be rebuild before the next sowing season.
After a detailed discussion with the concerned Engineers of BRO and Army and with the Chief Engineer (Retd) Hydel Project Dha-Bema, Mehendi Shah, it was unanimously decided that a joint effort will be made to clear the debris. It was further decided that the giant machines from the on-going Hydel Project site will be brought in to draw out the remaining water from the village. It is pertinent to mention here that the devastating water had formed an artificial lake in the middle of the village thus sinking numbers of houses of this village.
Looking at the dangers of already started freezing of waters, it was also decided to take immediate steps in the next 10 to 15 days time. Regarding the same, the concerned officers and officials will meet on Monday in Leh to start with the work immediately.
Area Councillor Phunchok Stanzin informed CEC that the nine families whose houses sunk completely under the water were already given compensation and that the work of giving land is going on.
SDM Khaltsi Tadpar Joldan also updated CEC Dr Dawa that the land to the nine most affected families has already been identified and is already with the District Administration which is in the last stage of allotment phase.
The villagers also demanded for continuation of providing of ration to those families whose farms and fields were damaged by the water.
En-route to Bema, CEC Dr Dawa also visited the 9MW Hydel Project Hanu to review its on-going work in progress. A discussion on a solution for the damaged road of Bema with the BRO and villagers also took place.
Earlier, SDM Khaltsi and his team of officers and officials gave a warm welcome to the CEC and his team at Khaltsi and during the short break there, CEC enquired BMO Khaltsi and ZEO Khaltsi about the functioning and staff strength of all the medical centers and schools of the block.
Later in the evening, CEC and his team also visited the flood affected areas of Skyurbuchan village.
