Sham demands due compensation for Refugees, border people and flood victims



Jammu November 24 (Scoop News)- A representative delegation of Refugees led by Madan Lal Sharma met the Governor here today at Raj Bhawan Jammu and demanded proper settlement of Refugees of 1947, 1965 & 1971, Provisioning infra/facilities for border and LOC inhabitants and due relief to victims of rains, floods and landslides in Jammu region. The delegation comprised of S. Manjeet Singh Ex-Minister, Anil Chowdhary, Jarnail Singh, Balwant Singh Nagra, Ch. Sukhdev Singh, Tirth Singh, Shoba Singh, Uttam Singh, Ch. Mohan Singh & Badri Nath Sharma.

After meeting the Governor, Madan Lal Sharma in a press statement said that the recently announced package by PM is inadequate and do not fulfil the aspirations of the people of Jammu region adding Mr. Sharma said, “our delegation requested Governor sir to take up our genuine demands with Prime Minister and Chief Minister for their redressal.”

Elaborating further Mr Sharma said that we have submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding enhancement in Refugees settlement package by Prime Minister from Rs. 5 lacs to minimum of Rs. 25 lacs as this package is proposed Rs 2000 crores against Rs. 9100 crores recommended by the previous government and the then Parliamentary Committee. He demanded reservation for the children of DPs and special recruitment drive for the unemployed youth among them. The delegation further observed that the victims of rains, flood and landslides in Jammu region have not been duly considered in the recently announced package by the Prime Minister, we demand compensation and support to the Jammu victims on the same pattern as has been announced for the Kashmir region voiced Mr Sharma. He said that the proposed waiver of 50% KCC loan is not sufficient, farmers are unable to pay any loan as they lost their full crops due to heavy rains/floods. The special package has no provision for remission of the KCC loan for Jammu region. Government should keep provision for fresh loans and waive off previous in totality.

He added that the package do not provisions 5 Marlas land for border people as was committed by the government. Moreover, exgratia amount is also not increased. We request for immediate provision of 5 Marlas land and enhancement in exgratia relief i.e. Rs. 25 lacs in case of death, Rs. 20 lacs in case of grievous injury or limb loss and Rs. 10 lacs for the normal injury, apart from government job to the next of the kin who die in such incidents, demanded the delegation.
He said that the package has not provisioned to compensate people whose land falls inside the fencing or is 2-3 kms from the border and they are unable to cultivate it due to risks of mines, firing and shelling. The delegation requested for provisioning/enhancing the same. The delegation also requested for the provision for increasing the height of bandhs to disrupt the visibility of farmers cultivating their lands from across the border in case of international border and wherever situation is same in case of LOC. He also demanded the provision of concrete bunkers on both international border and LOC for the civilians so that they can hide themselves in case of any emergency. The delegation demanded that the people of border should be given RBA status. Mr. Sharma also said that BADP funds should be used as per guideline not beyond the prescribed area limit and misappropriation of the same should be dealt with strongly. He also demanded increase in BADP funding.
