Akhtar, Priya inaugurate English ‘Enrichment Program’ for teachers
Jammu, November 27 (Scoop News)-A three day Enrichment Program on teaching English was today inaugurated by Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar and Minister of State for Education, Culture and Information, Priya Sethi, at Delhi Public School, here.
The said workshop has been designed to hone skills of English teachers.
Appreciating efforts of the DPS Society for imparting quality education, Naeem Akhtar said good private institutes should share social responsibility by adopting government schools in the vicinity. He said schools like DPS are islands of excellence in education and such institutes need to share their expertise in education with government schools.
“A large number of students are being catered by government schools and if private institutes handhold their government counterparts, the reach of quality education in the state would grow leaps and bounds,” he added.
Describing English language as a tool of empowerment, Akhtar said that government is paying special attention to ensure that students understand basics of the said language properly so that they are able to command the universally spoken language and face the world confidently.
He said government shall designate 2016 as ‘Year of Expression’ and concerted efforts would be made to improve expression among the students. He added good command over spoken as well as written English can help students be more articulate and expressive.
Speaking on the occasion, Priya Sethi said government has taken innovative steps to improve quality of education in the state and efforts are being made to upgrade standard of education in government run institutions. She further said government has the best lot of human resource, moreover modern educational tools would also be made available in these schools to help improve standard of education in the said institutions.
“The Central Education policy has also laid stress on adopting new techniques in education, and we have also initiated smart classes as well as concept of labs of language, math, science and other such tools in our institutions,” she added.
She laid stress on use of English language as a tool to improve communication skills. She said reach of English language has to go beyond urban areas and need of the hour is to ensure that students of rural belts also get good exposure to the language.
She also said that besides English, efforts should also be made to promote other regional languages, adding that local languages can also be used as a tool to connect with students.
Director, HRD Vinita Kher, Director, DPS S.S. Sodhi, Principal Ruchi Chabra, educationists, teachers and staff members attended the event.
