| California artists performs at Abhinav theater in international theater festival | |
Jammu, February 06 (Scoop News)- A theater group from California performed today at Abhinav theatre in the ongoing international theatre festival organized jointly by the National School of Drama (NSD) Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL).
‘The Pigeon Show: A Play of Fools’ was staged on the 4th day of 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2016, a six-day festival. Written and directed by Ronlin Foreman for the group Individual Performance, California the performance was in English.
It was 80 Minutes breathtaking performance which was highly appreciated by the audience.
Pigeon Show- A Play of Fools is a contemporary play , based on a personal dilemmas. The show uses the robust humour of the comedia dell’arte, the terror of the grotesque and the paradoxical provocation of the fool to examine our universal struggles with finding identity and significance in this world. Ronlin Foreman creates a tour-de-force with five characters, driven by metaphysical hungers, into relation with time, space and objects. It is a comedy of juxtapositions and dichotomy. Pushed to the limit, this sometimes becomes anguish. As one critic said, it is sometimes “hysterically disturbing”
In pigeon show one of the characters declares, “I Came to go”. The laughter in Pigeon show is not achieved by characters that play off-balance, awkwardly, desperately. It is a commentary of personal dilemmas. The characters play with fears, anguish, and the uncertainties of being hysterical.
Ronlin Foreman is a solo performer. His hallmarks are his characters (drawn from the fool, the clown, and the grotesque) and his ability to play profoundly with comedy, irreverently with the profound, and outrageously with an audience.
The Director and Playwright Ronlin Foreman’s career began in 1976 with the Everyman Players and includes areas of performance, playwriting, directing and teaching. As a performer, Ronlin has received numerous awards including Alliance for Arts in Education and also solo Artist Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. His solo works include Pigeon show, Happy Fellow, Images, Terre a Terre, and –Donkeys, Donuts, Feathers and Floats. In 2008 he was a featured presenter at the International Theatre Congress (ECUM)
Among others Dr. Aziz Hajni secretary Academy, Prof Lattif Khatana from National scholl of Drama, theatre personality Mushtaque Ali , Amin Bhat Muhtaq Kak , Ravinder Koul, Lalit Gupta, Khalid Hussain , Shiv Dutt , Deepak Kumar , and many other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
