CEC Dr Dawa laid out major achievements of 90 days of the new council

Leh, February 10 (Scoop News)-Major achievements of the Council, on completing 90 days of its formation, was laid out in a press conference by the Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa at Council Secretariat yesterday. Executive Councillors for Works Dorjey Motup, Agriculture Tsering Wangdus and Tourism Tsering Sandup and number of coucillors were also present.

CEC Dr Dawa, congratulating fellow Ladakhis for granting of the status of deemed to be University to the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies Choglamsar last month, asserted it as a major achievement of the new Council. It is the realization of one of the great visions of Kushok Gyalras Bakula Rinpoche, for which he had worked strenuously hard in the interest of Ladakh, he added.

Talking about the governments’ decision to include Nubra and Nyoma regions in the Alchi Hydel Project, is a major achievement and effort is also being made for inclusion of Durbuk sub-division in the same transmission line.

Similarly, approval has been granted under Centre Road Fund (CRF) for construction of four roads of Spituk to Choglamsar Zampa, Urbis road, Achinathang lungpa, and Khaksted to Chushul, wherein Urbis and Achinathang lungpa are without any road connectivity.

Dr Dawa said that approval has been granted for four hostels to educational backward blocks of Sumoor, Sakti, Nyoma, and Tangtse blocks.

He further asserted that the 80% work of blockage removal of Indus river at Bema village, caused due to flood last year, was conducted successfully by the Council in collaboration with P&R company in 10 days and he assured that the rest of the remaining work of removal will be completed successfully.

Talking about other projects, CEC said that the coming time will see work on resolving the parking problem that is becoming a major issue of the town.
Talking about meets with Army, CEC upraised the meeting about the assurance of Defense Minister in increasing of Air Tonnage in the Army Flights and maximum procurement of local products by army which will benefit farmers of Ladakh economically.

He further said that all the members of the Council are keen on making developments in agriculture and horticulture sectors like Seabuckthorn, Pashmina and other cash crops.

CEC said that last month, NHPC has decided to sponsor two (2) Food Processing Units of Jam and Juice in Khaltsi and Alchi villages that will help the fruit growers immensely and effort is going on for opening up of such units in Nubra sub-division also, he added.

Talking about the present state of Leh town in the wake of on-going Leh Beautification work, instructions has been laid out to make the entire work systematic and to clear the debris by the month of June.

He said that the huge number of vacancies of officers and officials in different departments, CEC said that the Chief Secretary has assured for filling up of these vacancies at the earliest.

Dr Dawa said that the work on 40 tokpos and nallahs in the entire district of Leh that were damaged in the last two major floods, CEC said that he had submitted for requirement of Rs. 1400 crs help to the Prime Minister. Work on exact estimate is under process which will be submitted to the PM.

Talking about the Airline problem in Ladakh, Dr Dawa said that after the efforts of MP Thupstan Tsewang, and after meeting with the Civil Aviation Minster, the decision of having 9 flights daily from the month of March was decided. And the decision on airfare will be decided after talks with State about state share, where the Centre has already decided about its share, added CEC.

Conducting of recent SSRB exam for the first time in Leh was accounted as a gift to the youth of Ladakh, said CEC.

Dr Dawa further declared that during his visit to Delhi he had met with the Minster for Road, Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari, who has given approvals for the Nimoo-Padum-Darcha as National Highway; construction of four-lane road from ITBP upto Kharu; and building of two-lane bridge at Choglamsar over Indus river.

The meeting appreciated the role of media in highlighting the issues of Ladakh so far and further appealed to highlight the work done of the Councillors on monthly basis for the encouragement to the Councillors in particular and for the information of the public in general

Executive Councillor for Works Dorjey Motup, Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Tourism Tsering Sandup, and Councillors also kept their achievements under their respective portfolio.
