No compromise on food safety: Div Com
Directs departments to intensify market checking
Srinagar, February 13 (Scoop News)-Directing the concerned departments for intensifying market checks to curb food adulteration and tightening noose around adulterants, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon on Saturday said that health of people should be the prime concern.
Dr. Samoon said this during a meeting with the officers of Drug and Food Control Department, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, CAPD and officials of other departments present at the meeting here.
The Divisional Commissioner said that administration will act tough against the people involved in such unethical trade practices, sale of spurious drug and adulterated food items and directed the concerned to take stern action under rules to curb such violations.
“Despite the food safety act in place many manufacturers and business units are not complying with the directives and are indulging in sale of misbranded food, the implementing agency has to ensure that such people are taken to task immediately,” he stressed.
He also asked to launch a massive campaign about food safety measures and Act across the valley to sensitise the people about the issue. While taking a review of the functioning of the office of Health Officer, Dr. Samoon said measures should be taken to ensure availability of the safe food and drugs in the markets.
