‘BIG Street’ gives lifetime experience to old city
Jammu being developed as tourist hub: Priya Sethi
Jammu,May 01 (Scoop News)- Underlining the resolve of the government to develop Jammu as tourist hub, Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Tourism, Culture, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks Priya Sethi said that exemplary initiatives have been taken by the government to boost the infrastructure development in the city.
She said that the coalition government has fast tracked projects of Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, multi level parking projects, artificial lake project, Tawi bank beautification and other such projects which would go a long way in attracting the tourists to this historic city.
Priya was speaking as chief guest at the “Big Street” event organized jointly by 92.7 BIG FM and Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, with the support of District Administration Jammu, here today.
She appreciated the efforts of 92.7 BIG FM and Rotary Club Jammu Tawi for bringing this novel concept in Jammu. She also appreciated the District Administration for supporting the cause and associating its entire staff with it.
Senior Leader Yudhvir Sethi was also present as special guest and gave away prizes to the winners of painting competition and felicitated other special guests.
Among others the event was attended by, Chief Electoral Officer J&K Shantmanu, DC Jammu Simrandeep Singh, ADC Jammu Dr Arun Manhas, President Chamber of Commerce and Industries Rakesh Gupta, President Raghunath bazar Association Baldev Khullar, SP Traffic City Sunil and SHO City Shakti Devi.
Speaking on the occasion Cluster Head 92.7 BIG FM J&K and Punjab Syed Mujtaba Ali Jaffery thanked the Administration and the residents of old city for their support and also assured that it will be a monthly event for Jammu.
The Sunday was again a new experience for Jammuites and especially for the residents of old city area- Raghunath Bazar and Kanak Mandi as during the event busy streets were kept vehicle-free till afternoon and were open to public to pursue any sports, fitness and other co-curricular activities on the road apart from shopping and enjoying food stalls, free tattoo and free haircuts by OSIS.
There was a separate kids’ corner to take selfies with their favourite cartoon characters- Chhota Bheem and Chutki. Also there was a special painting competition for children on the theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ in which they won cash prizes and Souvenirs.

The morning started with a special walk by a group of doctors from GMC Jammu spreading messages ranging from health, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, to cleanliness etc. Then there was a Yoga Session by The Yoga Centre, University of Jammu and meditation by the Art of Living followed by many enthralling co-curricular activities like Zumba dance by Shape n Smile, the Strings Institute of Music Performance, Street Play in Dogri ‘Teethh’ by Rangyug- a Theatre Group for Social Change, Live DJ by Anirudh besides various other activities were also a part of the event.
The event was designed and executed by Programming Head 92.7 BIG FM Vikrant Sharma.
President Rotary Club Jammu Tawi Ashok Gupta, Asstt. Governor Rotary Club Jammu Tawi Dr Dushyant Choudhary and many veteran Rotarians were present during the event along with RJs of BIG FM- RJ Juhie, Manas and Sarang.
