Three local NCC girls bring laurels to region, scale Mt Everest
had undergone strenuous training, elders laud accomplishment



Leh (Ladakh), May 27, (Scoop News)-Three NCC girls cadets of NCC Directorate Jammu and Kashmir have done the State proud by scaling the Mt Everest. They were part of the first ever all girls Mt Everest Expedition of the NCC which surmounted the world's highest summit on Saturday and Sunday.



The three girl cadets from J and K are Cadets Stanzlin Laskit (Shey), Tashi Laskit (Stok) and Tsering Angmo (Spituk). All the three girls belong to Leh and are students of Class XII, Govt Higher Secondary School, Leh.


These cadets had been training hard for the last two years and were selected after a very rigorous training and selection process.


100 cadets were selected by trials held pan-India. The selected cadets then underwent a special mountain course at HMI, Darjeeling. Pre-Everest Expedition to Mt Deo-Tibba (19688 ft), near Manali in Himachal Pradesh was conducted for 40 cadets in Apr-May 2015. 15 cadets were selected for the next phase based on their performance. In Aug 2015, the team set off on second Pre-Everest Expedition to Mt Trishul (23360 ft), and selected 10 girl cadets for Everest Expedition.


These ten cadets thereafter did a month long intensive winter training in Siachen Glacier at the Indian Army’s Siachen Battle School, before setting course for Nepal.



The team divided themselves into two teams, the first team attempted to scale the Everest on Saturday and were successful in their first attempt where as Team – 2 attempted to scale the Everest on Sunday and were also successful.



The aim of mountaineering expeditions in NCC is to strengthen the character and instill qualities of courage, comradeship, discipline and leadership in the cadets. NCC has always been in the forefront of adventure activities.



Maj Gen SS Jakhar, Additional Director General said that these girls by their outstanding achievement have brought the women power of the state to the forefront. He further said that these achievers will be suitably felicitated and rewarded on their return....
