CUK holds Naat competition

Srinagar, June 30 (Scoop News)-The Department of Urdu in collaboration with the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today organised a Naat competition at Nowgam-II administrative cum academic block here.
Prof. Margoob Banhali was the chief guest on the occasion while as Dean School of Languages and Director Research and Development, Prof. Muhammad Aslam and Head Department of Religious Studies, Prof. Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi were the Guest of Honour. Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, Urdu department Coordinator, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik, faculty members, students and other officers of the varsity were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Margoob Banhali hailed the University for organising the Naat competition and urged it to hold more such programmes in near future. He also appreciated the participating students for mesmerizing the audience by reciting beautiful Naats in the praise of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Director Research and Development, Prof. Muhammad Aslam, Head Department of Religious Studies, Prof. Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi, Urdu department Coordinator, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik and DSW Director, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka also spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the significance of Naats. They said that both Muslim and Non-Muslim skilled writers and poets have written Naats.
The speakers also highlighted the contribution of Kashmiri poets and writers who according to them have showered praises on the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and have become a household name in the Jammu and Kashmir.
In the competition, Shahid ul Islam of the Department of Religious Studies bagged the first prize and received a cash of Rs 1500 while as Ms. Khalid Akhter of Urdu Department and Arif Rashid Bhat of the Convergent Journalism Department bagged the second and third prize and received Rs 1200 and 1000 respectively.
The jury comprised Peerzada Yousuf ul Hassni, Prof. Nazir Azad, Principal Government Degree College Kupwara and Mufti Shafeeq ul Rehman
Assistant Professor, Department of Urdu, Dr. Pervez Ahmad conducted the programme proceedings, while as Assistant Professor, Rashid Aziz proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, the programme started with recitation of Holy Quran by a student, Ghulam Mustafa, while as Assistant Prof, Department of Urdu, Dr. Altaf Hussain also recited a Naat.
