Tsering Dorjey visits the villages of Kharu block, takes stock of public issues

Leh, July 23 (Scoop News)-Minister for Ladakh Affairs & Cooperatives Tsering Dorjey Lakrook visited the villages of Kharu block today. It was his maiden visit to a village after assuming the ministerial portfolio of Ladakh Affairs. He was accompanied by Executive Councillor Works Dorjey Motup, Executive Councillor Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Superintending Engineer PMGSY, concerned engineers of PDD, Construction and PHE departments, Block Medical Officer Leh, Block Development Officer, Tehsildar, CDPO and officers of Kharu block.

Addressing the various gatherings at villages of Sakti, Taknak, Tagar, and Chemdey, Minister Tsering Dorjey Lakrook detailed about the Ladakh Affairs’ nature of work which is mainly to put forward the projects submitted by both the districts of Leh and Kargil to the government. The job is also to push the State projects to the Central level and vice-versa. Appreciating the nature of hard work, dedication, and many years of experience of Sakti Councillor Gyal P Wangyal, Minister Dorjey assured the villagers of early redress of the demands.

Talking about the benefits to farmers, the Minister gave an overview about the Controlled Atmosphere Storage and cold storage, the foundation stone for which was laid on 18th of this month at Agling, urged the farmers to avail the benefits of various loans / subsidy components under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and other Central sponsored schemes.

He further assured that the additional ration under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme will also reach them.

EC Works speaking on the occasion assured the villagers that every incomplete work of roads and water under the Council will be completed in phase manner.

Similarly, EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus assured that priority is being given to the agriculture and irrigation sectors and further strengthened the hope that all the incomplete work will be completed in due time.

Earlier, speaking on behalf of the villagers Councillor Gyal P Wangyal welcoming the minister and his team majorly demanded for completion of work on water reservoir at Taknak where, though the reservoir tank itself is completed but the work of lying of pipes for uplifting of water is still not completed by the contractor. The minister visiting the spot gave directions to instruct the contractor for its early completion and if the contractor still fails to complete the work then in that case it should be completed by the department so that the water problem of the people can be resolved as soon as possible, asserted the Minister.

The villagers also pointed towards the failed benefits from the artificial glaciers constructed by different NGOs at the Warila and Changla passes, the villagers therefore demanded for diversion of water from other side of these passes. The engineers here updated the minister that this case has already been raised to be taken up under the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojna.



The villagers also demanded for completion of the headworks that were destroyed during 2015 flashflood. Here, the Councillor further said that in order to strengthen the entire nallah, a project worth Rs. 8 crore has been sent to the Centre Government and therefore requested the minister to look into the matter to putting forward the case for its sanctioning at the earliest.

The 2015 flashflood had also damaged the roads of the Taknak village which comes under PMGSY, though minor repair work has been done, the underground installation of OFC wires by Army had again damaged the roads. Responding to this issue, the Superintending Engineer of PMGSY told the gathering that they are going to use the guarantee money that is generally kept aside by the Army for such kinds of disturbances. They will also use funds under PMGSY for the repair work if need arises, assured SE.

At Kharu, the villagers stated about their sad drought-like condition due to non-availability of water for their fields. Here, the Minister and the Councillor directed the Tehsildar for early completion and submission of the on-going ‘girdawari’ work for the providing compensation.
The villagers also demanded for compound walling of their community wall and early completion of the on-going drinking water project at the earliest.

The Minister also visited the Takthok and Chemday Monasteries where the monks laid out their share of grievances and demands of the monasteries to which the Minister gave a patient hearing and assured of every possible redress.
