Leh observes Dr Ambedkar's 125th birth anniversary


Leh (Ladakh),(Scoop News)-The 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was celebrated yesterday morning at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre Choglamsar where the statue of Dr Ambedkar was unveiled and the foundation stone for Bharat Ratna Dr. B R Ambedkar Memorial Park was also laid at the Mahabodhi campus. The two-day celebration is part of the whole year celebration of the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar.
The Chief Minister of Maharasthra Devendra Fadnavis was the chief guest, and Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI RAmdas Athawale was the guest of honour. Among other guests, the ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of India Chalit Manityakul; HH Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni founder Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti New Delhi; Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa; MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora; Deputy Commissioner Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy; SSP T. Gyalpo; Vice President LBA; President Anjuman Moin-ui-islam; President Anjuman Imamia; President LBA Youth wing; President LBA Women’s wing; President Women Alliance Leh; and various government officers from Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune, Gujurat, Delhi and Leh and monks and guests from Ladakh and Thailand were also present.
Chief guest the Chief Minister of Maharasthra Devendra Fadnavis speaking on the occasion offering salutations to the Buddha he saluted Dr Ambedkar as the great son of soil. Talking about Dr Ambedkar he said that Babasaheb had believed that every religion should have a morality that he found it in Buddhism which had moral principles and in addition to it Buddhism also had the tenets of equality, liberty and fraternity that had mainly attracted Babasheb to accept Buddhism. And the existence of Buddhism has added to the recognition to the culture of India. He further appreciated the efforts of LBA in creating a casteless society which was a dream of Dr Ambedkar. He further assured of helping in the creation of the Dr Ambedkar Memorial Park. Appreciating the great constitution of India, Fadnavis further said that following the strong constitution that has equality and liberty will help any country to prosper and that through this constitution, India will achieve highest position in the world.
Earlier, welcoming the guests MIMC founder President Ven Bikkhu Sangasena termed the unveiling of the first ever Dr Ambedkar statue in Ladakh as an historic moment. He then talking about the countless contributions of Dr Ambedkar talked about his great contribution towards revival of Buddhas’ teachings which teaches the message of love, peace and compassion that is acknowledged by the whole world. Talking about the importance of establishing of the statue of Dr Ambedkar in Ladakh, it will not only help carry the message of Dr Ambedkar to the different parts of the world through thousands of tourists who visit Ladakh every year but will also help bring together the traditional Buddhists of ladakh and new Buddhists of different parts of India and will help spread the message of compassion and world peace, he said. He also thanked the Commissioner Food & Drugs Administration, Maharashtra Harshdeep Kamble for donating the statue of Dr Ambedkar.
On the occasion, MOS for Social Justice and Empowerment GoI Ramdas Athawale; Cabinet Minister for Social Justice Govt of Maharashtra Rajkumar Badole; HH Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni founder Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti New Delhi; Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa; Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Maharashtra Harshdeep Kamble; and Vice-president LBA PT Kunzang also spoke.
A colourful cultural programme mesmerised the gathering of locals, nationals and international personnel.
Later in the afternoon, in continuation to the celebrations of the morning, the grand celebration was observed at the Nagarjuna Hall of CIBS Choglamsar to celebrate the same function which was attended by thousands of local, national and international guests and officers where HH Skyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche was the chief guest and HE Skyabjey Thuktsey Rinpoche and Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI RAmdas Athawale were the guests of honour.
