Ten Days Training Programme organized at JU

Jammu, July 26 (Scoop News)- Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu in collaboration with Directorate of Library and Research, J&K is organizing ten days training programme starting from July 26 to August 05, 2016 for the library professionals of public libraries of Jammu province. The training programme will focus on latest techniques of library and information science/ software e-Granthalaya/ internet, etc. for maintaining books/ library records and for making the Libraries of this Department more vibrant for the benefit of the borrowers/ students/ scholars and general public. In the inaugural programme Prof. Sangita Gupta welcomed the participants and emphasized that public libraries are important component for the overall development of the society. She assured the participants that the technical expertise of the department will train the library professionals in best possible way.
Shri O.P. Sangral, Deputy Director, Libraries in his introductory remarks enlightened the participants about the vision of the state government towards strengthening the public libraries.
Mrs. Rajni Mishra, Scientist ‘D’ from NIC New Delhi explained that e-Granthalaya is the integrated library management library software developed by NIC for automation and networking of public libraries.
Prof. Rajender Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Jammu in his inaugural Address emphasized the need of automating the library records and at the same time making cloud ready application for facilitating web based data entry with a centralized database.
The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Meghna Dhar, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Shri P.K. Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science.
