IKFS requests Indian Embassy for the arrangement of repatriation program for stranded Indians in Kuwait

Kuwait, August 24(Scoop News Network)- Indo-Kuwait Friendship Society has contacted Indian Embassy Labour department and sent request couple of weeks ago to Sunil Jainji, Ambassador of India to Kuwait for the arrangement of repatriation of undocumented Indian Workers (UIWs) in Kuwait, in order to avail services for the mass repatriation of overstaying Indians under the Assisted Voluntary Repatriation Program (AVRP).

IKFS is asking to sign a mutual agreement between Indian Embassy and Ministry of Interior for an “Assisted Voluntary Repatriation Program”, (AVRP) so that Indian Embassy in Kuwait can address the rising number of stranded persons with expired resident permits and or so called “absconding persons” in Kuwait. There are about 900,000 Indians living in Kuwait and as per reports show about 30,000 people from different categories (about 3.4% work force) may be seeking for assisted repatriation. Dr. Ghalib Al-Mashoor, IKFS President said in a statement. IKFS members are already offered to cooperate with Indian Embassy for evacuation of the stranded people.

IKFS has requested with H.E. Sunil Jain, Ambassador of India to ensure that the smooth repatriation of the people under the AVRP did not have to pass through the ‘Talha’ or deportation Centre. However, them to transported from the embassy shelter area directly to the airport where they may be accompanied by the Embassy’s Labour attaché and or with the designated volunteers (team) from different Indian associations who can also help Kuwait Immigration authorities at the airport check-in counter. Most of the undocumented workers were employed either as Household Service Workers (HSWs) of Individually owned Establishment Workers (IEWs) who left their employers after experiencing various forms of maltreatment such as physical, verbal or sexual abuse, non-payment of salaries, lack of food and overwork etc...

Advocate Sayid Nizar, Vice President of IKFS and legal consultant pointed out that, Indian Embassy may take serious steps to assist the illegally staying Indians who are in deep crisis needs immediate help followed by evacuation. For such things, a short of visit of Indian External or Overseas Minister from Union Government will help with reconciliation with the Interior Minister of Kuwait for a day . IKFS is under impression that Kuwait Ministry will consider positively, such a request from our Indian counterpart and the life become easy.

Therefore, IKFS is requesting Embassy to take immediate action with decisive mind, by meeting Senior Officers at Ministry of Interior, Emigration authorities for the so called “Assisted Voluntary Repatriation Program”, (AVRP) with mutual respect and understanding the value based on humanitarian consideration. Once the approval is there, Embassy can announce and hire some huge shelters for processing of deprived persons’ travel documents and clearance in different parts of Kuwait. Embassy can issue some hotline phone numbers for the public, confirming that repatriation with no detention under the AVRP can help to go home while asking them to take advantage of the program immediately. IKFS noticed that Embassy of Philippines already utilized such Volunteer assisted repatriation program and hundreds of their nationals benefited from such facilities 3 weeks ago.
