Brahman Maha Mandal oraganises a cultural event in memory of Lt. Shivji Zaroo
holds 'Kashmiri Speaking Contest' for budding youth of community





Jammu, October 21, (Scoop News)-Jammu and Kashmir Brahman Maha Mandal on Friday organised a cultural programme at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu in the fond memory of Late Shiv Ji Zaroo.

The programme included the Kashmiri Speaking Contest among the budding youth of Kashmiri Pandit community. The Brahman Maha Mandal undertook the task of holding the contest to encourage the budding Kashmiri Pandit youth to regain his/her identity.

The Kashmiri Pandit community after exodus from the valley and remaining in exile for past 26 years have started feeling the loss of identity. The language of the community is the most impressible component of the cultural identity, which unfortunately has started eroding because of the brining up of Kashmiri Youth in an environment other than the valley.

It was a humble step by the Brahman Maha Mandal to revive the Kashmiri language among the youths to regain the foothold of the lost identity. The contest was divided into three age groups of 4 to 7 years, 7 to 11 years and 11 to 15 years.

The growing youth were given several topics to speak on in their mother language. The performance of the young participants was adjudged by eminent panel comprising of Sh. P. N. Shad, Ms. Santosh Shah ‘Nadan’, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Mr. M.L. Saraf and Mr. Rajinder Tickoo.

In all 44 young boys and girls participated in the Kashmiri Speaking Contest and ten participants were declared winners for various cash prizes. The winners were Akash Sharma, Rohin Qasba, Vaisnava Bhat in the age group of 4 to 7 years, Aditya Raina, Devya Bhat, Danish Dhar and Abhay Koul in the age group of 7 to 11 years, and Vanshi Bhat, Himanshu Raina, Prabhat Aakhoon and Himashu Bhat in the age group of 11-15 years.

Besides, noted and eminent music composer of the community Kishan Ji Langoo was felicitated by the Brahman Maha Mandal for his invaluable contributions to the music world in past about six decades....
