Priya Sethi exhorts youth to refrain from social evils, help build a strong nation
Jammu, October 23, (Scoop News)-The S.N.S Vidya Mandir school,Talab Tillo, today organized Diwali Mela to mark celebration of festival of lights in which Minister of State for Culture, Tourism, Education and Technical Education, Priya Sethi was the chief guest.
The objective of holding the event is to further strengthen the students' bonding with their culture and traditions besides promoting the message of love, peace, brotherhood and prosperity in the society.
Senior BJP leader Yudhvir Sethi was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Addressing at the event, Priya Sethi said that such activities in schools can help students appreciate and preserve the richness and diversity of our unique culture. Such events are the need of the hour to save our cultural and traditional identity from the mounting influence of Western world to which our young generations are more prone, she added. She further said that such activities go a long way in enhancing the social and cultural development of the community in multi racial, multi lingual and multi cultural environment.
Highlighting the significance of Diwali, she said that the festival symbolizes the victory of good over the evil which is celebrated among different sections of the society with great zeal and fanaticism which further signifies the unity in diversity nationwide. She further said that history of Diwali is replete with legends and the central theme of all legends point to the classic truth of the victory of the good over the evil.
The Minister exhorted upon the students to take inspiration from our age old ethos of truthfulness and righteousness and refrain themselves from certain social evils like drug menace, alcoholism which can lead them only to self destruction. She said that the center and the state governments have launched a number of innovative schemes for development and welfare of youth so they should utilize such opportunities optimally for their own good and society's good as well.
Yudhvir Sethi, while extending wishes to the people, appreciated the school for organising such a great event which will immensely add to the significance of such occasions which are aimed at to pure our thoughts and deeds for creating a better world to live in.
The event witnessed various programmes like skit, dance, patriotic songs, religious programmes and other cultural activities.
The highlights of the mela were several interesting game stalls and food stalls, which offered a wide variety of delectable foods like Chinese, continental, snacks, various street foods, bakery delights, soft drinks and several beverages.
Meanwhile, the Minister along with other prominent participants paid homage to Martyr Gurnaam Singh and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Among others , Manager SNS Rajinder Kakkar, Advisors SNS Ramakant Dubey, I.D Soni, Y.P. Puri, Leela Karan Sharma, Principal DBN School Praveen Jha besides Principal SNS Neelam Sabharwal were present on the occasion.
