World Polio Day observed by Rotary Club Akhnoor | |
Akhnoor, October 24, (Scoop News)-Rotary Club Akhnoor a social & voluntary organisation of Rotary International observed World Polio Day on 24 Oct 2016 at Akhnoor The function was held at Govt Girls Middle School Akhnoor which was attended by ZEO Akhnoor Mrs Nazreen Akhtar as Chief Guest School Incharge Mrs Neeta Jamwal, CHO Kamal Lal as well as Rtns Rameshwar Pawar, Anoop Gupta, Aman Gupta, Ashok Gupta, Kewal Gupta, Ranjeet Gupta, Rajesh Bhalla, Rajesh Gupta, Sunil Sharma, Vijay Bral and students of Interact Clubs of Little Hut High School, Chander Bhagha High School, Govt Boys Middle School Akhnoor besides students, Schools Staff, Hospital Staff & citizens of the town. The function was started with the Welcome address by Rtn President Ashish Mahajan. Speaking on the occasion Rtn Past Presdent Dr Romesh Kashyap told the audience that World Polio Day was estblished by Rotary International a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Dr Jonas Salk who lead the 1st team to develop a vaccine against Polio, a crippling and fetal infectious disease of children of age of 0--5 years which has no cure but can only be prevented by immunization. Use of inactivated Polio Virus Vaccine developed by Dr Jonas Salk and Subsequently widespread use of Oral Polio Vaccine developed by Dr Albert Sabin lead to establishment of Global Polio Eradication Intiative in 1988. As on 2016 GPEI has reduced Polio world wide by 99.9percent It was also revealed that India has been certified Polio Free Country on 24th March 2014 by WHO but still Immunization Programm is continuing till the whole world becomes Polio Free. In the function a debate on "WORLD POLIO DAY was conducted wherein 4 students participated who were awarded & honoured by the club. Rtn Pawan Gupta conducted the whole proceedings. In the end PP Rtn Raj Paul Sharma proposed the vote of thanks. Later on A huge rally was organised by Rotary Club Akhnoor in the town to spread the message of Awareness in public to immunize the children between the age of 0--5 years regularly till the world becomes Polio Free.
