Protesters demand up-gradation of border road in Ladakh region, lock all govt. offices except schools,
Jammu based students urge LAHDC for holding of simultaneous SSSB exams for them


Nyoma (Ladakh), October 24, (Scoop News)-Scores of people from Demchok and Koyoul jointly staged a protest march demanding an early completion of Dungti- Demchok road. The protesters were carrying placards and national flag alleged step motherly treatment towards the remote region bordering China.


To impress upon the government, the protesters locked all government offices except educational institutions in their village and later on submitted a signed resolution to Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) seeking an early action on their demands including land settlement, LoAC Certificate, launch of Pashmina promotion programme and a BSNL tower for ensuring a smooth communication link within and outside the region.


They said 137 km long road, of which over 100 km stretch is in a completely dilapidated condition, serves as a lifeline to number of villages including Demchok, Koyoul, Tsaga, Muth and Niddar has been neglected by the successive governments since 1962 war and had submitted several memoranda to the important people and leaders who had visited this area till date particularly during elections. They alleged that except for promises nobody had ever cared to repair and upgrade the road.


The protesters alleged they had to face severe problems in ferrying emergency patients for treatment to sub district hospital at Nyoma


Declaring themselves to be natural guardians of borders with China, they said that if they move to other places then there will be more incursions in these areas.


Meanwhile, dozens of Jammu based Ladakhi students held a protest against the administration of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Leh. They assembled outside Press Club of Jammu in the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir under the banner of All Ladakh Students Association. They raised slogans against LAHDC for their alleged irresponsible and arrogant attitude towards the hapless student.


“We belong to Ladakh region and are studying in Jammu and other parts of the country. We urge authorities to hold simultaneous exams for general line teachers, village level workers and MPW on October 29”, they demanded.


They said that due to prevailing unrest in Kashmir, the students were unable to travel to Ladakh and appear in these tests on the stupilated date. “Manali- Leh road is officially closed and as students they cannot afford exorbitant air fare,” the students lamented.


They said mid-session tests of various classes and semester exams were going on in several educational institutions at present due to which the applicants can’t appear in the said tests at Leh. They protesters claimed they had approached the authorities of LAHDC for holding of simultaneous tests in Jammu by opening a centre for the applicants.


They threatened to continue their prostest till the concerned authorities don’t accept their demand. ...
