Jammu doctor felicitated at national event for donating blood 50 times


Pune,October 24, (Scoop News)-The Maharashtra Chapter of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI) on Saturday honoured a Jammu based doctor for humanitarian contribution in terms of donating blood 50 times in the past three decades.

Dr Kiran Sharma was among a very few half Centurian blood donors from across the country who were felicitate by the Maharashtra State Chapter of ISBTI at a function held at part of "National Voluntary Blood Donation Month-October in Pune Maharashtra.

The beneficiaries of VBD were also felicitated in the form of 50 Thalassaemic children.

Centurian blood donors from all across the country narrated their experiences in a day long program.

The donors were blessed by Dr.Ashok Kukade,Founder,Swami Vivekanand Hospital,Latur,.Prakash Nadar, a centenarian blood donor from Mumbai and President All India Paralympic Association, Mr.Sutar,Dy.Editor, Daily Sakal Pune, Dr.Vivek Saoji, Principal, Bharatya Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune and the senior functionaries of ISBTI, Maharashtra, Prof. Dr. Dileep Wani (Chairperson), Dr.Mrs.Purnima Rao (Secretary) and Dr.Mrs.Smita Joshi(Treasurer).

The day long program ended with a rally to promote VBD which comprised 300 blood bank workers, 50 Thalassaemic children, 40 Centurian blood donors, VBD Camp organisers & 12 ambulances decorated with slogans on VBD.

Among the 40 donors, Dr Kiran Sharma achieved the distinction of having donated blood for the 5oth time on World Blood Donors Day at a special blood donation camp held at Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar on 22 October 2016.

Dr Kiran Sharma donated blood for the first time in 1987 while pursuing medicine in Rohtak Medical College. Hailing from Bhaderwah, Dr Sharma has been donating blood at the camps being held across the Jammu region and outside the State for the past nearly three decades.
