Anantnag district admin starts drive against poppy, cannabis cultivation | 20 kanals of bhung cultivation destroyed in Bandipora |
Anantnag/Bandipora, October 24, (Scoop News)-The Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid, today launched a drive to eradicate the menace of poppy and cannabis cultivation in the district. The drive was launched in Dupatyar, Hayar, Gantlipora, Takibal, Kanalwan and Krandigam villages of Bijbehara Tehsil. During the drive, the DC was accompanied by Tehsildar Bijbehara, officials of Excise and Police Departments. Poppy cultivation spread over 125 kanals of land was destroyed on spot and 75 kgs of cannabis dust was seized during the drive. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that such illegal activities are detrimental to the entire society, particularly to the young generation. He stressed on creating more awareness so that the drug menace is eradicated completely from the society. On the occasion various local Auqaf committees and other relevant stake holders were taken onboard for spreading awareness regarding the illegal nature of such activities. It was given out that the stern necessary action as per the law would be initiated against the offenders who grow, harvest, store, transport buy/sell or deal with such illegal activities.
The Excise officials of Kashmir division under the close supervision of Excise & Taxation Officer Baramulla-Bandipora –Kupwara range today destroyed 20 Kanals of Bhung cultivation in villages of Shalwat,Rackh Shalwat and Rack Ashma of district Bandipora in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Administration. The Excise department said the drive against the illegal bhung cultivation would continue till the district is made free of this menace. ... |
