Jammu, December 7,(Scoop News)-J Jaylalithaa , a popular matinee idol of south Indian cinema of yesteryears was deeply fond of Kashmir as she had visited the place several times in connection with her professional requirements. She had been keeping constant track of the developments in the roiled Valley even after she became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.


Earlier, on several occasions Jayalalithaa had raised the issue of displaced Kashmiri Pandits and also had writtten a detailed letter to the then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, about their dignified rehabilitation and safe return.


Then again in 2014, she was the first chief minister from Tamil Nadu to contribute rupees five crore towards the flood victims of Kashmir.


Jayalalithaa was an outstanding student in her school and had topped her 10th grade board exams and wanted to study law but had to give up her academic career because of family circumstances and financial constraints. A convent educated- Jayalalithaa, she studied first at Bishop Cotton in Bengaluru and later at Church Park in Chennai, was comfortable in multiple languages and the skills came handy in politics. In interviews, she revealed her ambition was to become a lawyer like Ram Jethmalani or Fali S Nariman.


She took up film career at the insistence of her mother and excelled there also. In 89 Tamil films, she worked in, 84 films were box office bonanza. As a child artist, she performed a male character of young Krishna in a three minute song in Kishore Kumar starrer ‘Manmouji’. Izzat, a 1969 release Hindi movie opposite Dharmendra also proved to be a box office buster. She had won seven filmfare and four other awards during her entire film career.


She was a thinking actor and an extraordinarily favourite and influential politician; she had a knack of reading the political situation and even likened herself to a circus ringmaster, when it came to dealing with bureaucrats. She was a popular leader and launched several populist schemes like Amma canteens, houses, goats and grinders, free laptops, all women police stations, new Veeranam scheme, harvesting water scheme and cradle baby scheme.
