| Tsewang Rigzin, former EC, seeks intervention of PM for restoring internet connectivity and electricity supply in strategic region of Ladakh | |
Leh(Ladakh), January 12, (Scoop News)-Raising public related issues about the faulty internet connectivity and electricity supply in country's strategic region of Ladakh, a former executive counsellor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and a social activist, Tsewang Rigzin, has written a letter to Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention and find permanent solution to keep Ladakh digitally connected round the year.

Esteemed Prime Minister Sir,
With humble submission I would like to apprise you of the fact that one of India’s most strategic regions, Leh Ladakh, is badly suffering from electricity and internet connectivity. Poor connectivity of internet and telecommunication services and curtailment of electricity for long hours in winter months are causing huge inconvenience for the people of Ladakh these days.
Most of the time there is neither electricity nor the internet facility. Frequent damages caused to the Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) on Leh- Srinagar road often leads to complete collapse of internet and telecommunication services of BSNL in Ladakh. As a result of which Ladakhi students, researchers and those associated with travel industry in Ladakh are made to suffer hugely since internet has become lifeline for them in their respective fields.
I am seeking your intervention to find appropriate and permanent solutions to keep Ladakh digitally connected round the year. Keeping strategically important places like Ladakh disconnected for days together goes against the very spirit of Digital India initiative that you have initiated to transform our nation and creating opportunities for all citizens by harnessing digital technologies.
In view of the circumstances stated above with regard to electricity and telecommunication services in Ladakh, you are requested to kindly issue directions to concerned Ministries to review and overhaul the situation of basic services of telecommunication system and electricity in Ladakh as only such steps will help the Government of India to realize its mission to empower every citizen with access to digital services, knowledge and information.
