Congress holds protest demonstration over demonetisation in front of RBI complex




Jammu, January 18, (Scoop News)-A massive protest dharna was held at Jammu in front of RBI branch by the congress party in which thousands of Congress workers participated today.



Led by JKPCC president GA Mir, AICC Observers and senior functionaries of the party, a large number of congress workers from Jammu Urban and Rural areas from all over Jammu province took out a march to the RBI office near Railway Station. They raising slogans against the policies of the Modi Government especially regarding the sudden demonetization which has adversely affected the overall economy of the Country and put the common man to great hardships.



All senior functionaries and leaders of the party, legislators, former minister and former legislators, districts and block office bearers, leaders of frontal organizations of Mahila Congress, Youth, NSUI and Seva Dal and contested candidates joined the march and sit in dharna for over three hours in front of RBI Office.


Carrying play cards and flags and raising slogans “Narinder Modi Garib Virodhi, Narinder Modi Kisan Virodhi” Rahul Gandhi Aage Bado Hum Tumahre Saath Hain etc. The protestors questioned the decision of the demonetization and asked the Modi. Government and BJP to explain its benefits to the nation and answers the questions being raised about the fallout of this decision especially the economic slowdown and adverse effects on all sectors and section of society, especially the poor and down trodden and common people.



The speakers questioned the RBI for its surrender of autonomy and succumbing to the undue pressures over the unwise decision of demonetization by Prime Minister Sh. Narinder Modi and demanded the resignation of RBI Governor and a white paper on the affects and fall out of demonetization.



Addressing the huge gathering of congress workers PCC chief, Mir lashed out at the Prime Minister for his style of working and taking a unilateral decision without due consultations about the fallout of this sudden decision, which has caused enormous loss to the nation and badly affected the poor and common man leading to over 120 deaths.


He said only poor, peasants, labourers, and common man has been greatly affected and faced hardships while rich and influential have been either benefitted or have no effect, as was being claimed by the Prime Minister. He said that Modi Government fails to explain to the nation the amount of Black Money exposed or recovered, when about 97% money has been deposited in the bank where the black money has gone?


PCC chief said GDP has gone down and daily earners lost jobs and faced hardships. He said that arbitrary style of functioning of Mr. Modi is damaging every institution of democracy in the country and congress would continue to awaken and rise against the style of functioning of Modi Government.


He said congress would take this protest campaign further to the grass root level in the days to come. He said that the State level convention on this issue would be held in Jammu on January 30.



Addressing the gathering Sh. Aftab Alam AICC Observer questioned the Modi Govt. for the decision of demonetization and said that it has adversely affected each and every sector while the worst hit are the poor and common people including farmers, daily earners, small traders and laborers etc. He said that Prime Minister Mr. Modi and BJP are Jumla Baaz and have misled the people on every occasion. He said that country progressed in all fields under congress regime in the country but the PM continue to mislead the nation.



Former President PCC Peerzada Mohd. Sayeed questioned the RBI for its surrender of authority and autonomy under the constitution and said that Mr. Modi has put the common man in hardship and has utterly failed on all fronts and has failed to fulfill the commitments to the countrymen .



Former minister Sham Lal Sharma in his address riled the Modi govt. for trying to distort facts and history and mislead the nation about the historical role and contributions of the congress party . He said that BJP leaders have even insulted the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. He said that Modi Govt. has been trying to mislead nation by telling lies and befooling the common man.


He said that the Modi Govt’s claims with regards to demonetization have proved to be false and merely a surgical strike on the poor, farmers, labourers medium and small businessman who have suffered a lot.


He said that out of total Rs. 15.44 lac crores demonetized , rupees fifteen lac crores stand deposited by 30th November where as the NRIs have the exemption up to 31st March this year which falsifies the claims about black money or stand exchanged in new currency. In that situation Modi government and RBI should explain what course of action is being taken against such people.



CLP leader, Nawang Rigzin Jora, while criticizing the autocratic style of functioning of Modi govt. there by eroding the authority and autonomy of the democratic and constitutional institution like RBI, posed serious questions about the decision of demonetization and its overall impact. He said that while all economic experts and international economic agencies have questioned and evaluated the adverse effects of this decision on the overall economy of the country, the claims with regard to blocking of Hawala funding to militancy have no basis.



Former dy. chief minister, Tara Chand, former ministers and vice president Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Taj Mohiuddin and Jugal Kishore were among those who also addressed.


Raman Bhalla expressed gratitude to all the party workers for there wholehearted support to make the programme a grand success. Prominent others who attended include Madan Lal Sharma ex-MP, AICC observers Aftab Alam, co-ordinator, Dr. Subash Manglote, and Mr. Manmohan Katoch, Kanta Bhan, R.S. Chib, Ravinder Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjit Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh, Ch. Shah Mohd., Hilal Shah, Shah Nawaz Chaudhary, Faqir Nath, Namrata Sharma, Indu Pawar, District Presidents Anil Chopra, Naresh Gupta-MLC, Sain Ab. Rashid, Ashok Gupta, besides PCC functionaries, Ex- Legislators, Members of PCC Executive, Contested Candidates, leaders of PCC cells and departments, District and Block functionaries and other prominent leaders joined the protest.



Later a memorandum was submitted to the RBI Governor through Senior officer of RBI here raising several questions with regard to the demonetization and its fallout and demanded that RBI and Modi government should answer the question raised in the memorandum on the behalf of the countrymen by the congress party and issue a white paper.


It also demanded that RBI Governor should own moral responsibility and step down in view of the adverse affects on the overall economy and due interference in the autonomy of the RBI by the Modi Govt. It also question that by the RBI did not enquire into the reasons of deposit of Rs. 5,86000 crores in banks out of which Rs. 3,20,000 crores in fixed deposits in the month of September 2016, just before demonetization.


It said that RBI, Finance Ministry and other departments brought about 138 changes in the norms of demonetization in 70 days as a result people have started Reserve Bank Of India as Reverse Bank Of India. There is urgent need to restore the autonomy of the RBI in the form of financial regulator in this Country....
