| 5-day workshop on ‘Preventive Conservation of Manuscripts’ to begin on Tuesday | |
Jammu, February 19, (Scoop News)- Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with Shasvat Art Gallery, Jammu and Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is organizing five day workshop-cum-Exhibition regarding “Preservative Conservation of Manuscripts” on Tuesday (21-02-2017) at Kala Kendra, Jammu.
The workshop has been sanctioned by National Mission for Manuscripts, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for creating awareness among general public/Scholars regarding the importance and preservation methods/techniques of Manuscript Conservation Resource persons from apex conservation institutions of India are expected to deliver lectures. Near about 45 participants are expected to attend the 5 days workshop.
Besides workshop, exhibition of rare calligraphic specimens, rare Thangka’s, Manuscripts, and painting shall be displayed. Minister of State for Culture, Education, Tourism, Floriculture, Priya Sethi will inaugurate the Exhibition, while as Secretary Culture Dilshad Khan, V.V. Reddy, Director, National Mission for Manuscripts, Ministry of Culture Government of India will be present at inauguration function.
According to officials, the state of Jammu and Kashmir possesses an un-interrupted account of oriental learning, which can be traced to the beginning of history. By virtue of its uniqueness, the state has remained a sanctuary of a mixed and harmonised culture. The State has produced a galaxy of philosophers, scholars, poets, historians, physicians, mathematicians and not a single branch of knowledge has been left untouched by them and this mental exercise has never cooled down but continues even at present.
