team undergoing coaching session at present

Leh (Ladakh), February 21, (Scoop News)-A 20 member all Ladakhi women team is leaving early next month for Bangkok to participate in 10 day long tournament for Asian Ice Hockey Women’s Challenge Cup-2017, official sources said on Tuesday.

The team is currently undergoing a fortnight long coaching session in Kyrgyzstan, as India of its own hasn’t, so far, built an ice rink of international standard.

“The players are affiliated with Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation and most of them have already represented the country earlier in Taipei last year,” they said, adding that these players belonged to the remotest villages of the region where the game (ice hockey) is played with twigs obtained from tree branches and a square shaped wooden blocks and on the surfaces frozen water bodies during winter months.

The sources said the Indian team will contest against six other teams from Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore. According to the fixture, India would be facing its first match on March 8.
