Abdul Haq inaugurates national seminar on Lifelong Learning, Sustainable Rural development
Jammu, February 22, (Scoop News)- Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq today said that to achieve tangible targets in rural development, commitment, defined vision and goals are necessary.
The Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the two day national seminar on Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Rural Development organized by Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, here today.
The Minister said by organizing such seminars and introducing courses related to rural development in university curriculum plays a vital role for the development of rural areas.
The Minister said the Govt is not only taking rural development as a department but as a mission to achieve targets for the rural development. He stressed on the faculty and the students to contribute for rural development.
The Minister assured that the department will provide all possible support to the students of rural development and directed the concerned officers for taking steps for engaging these students with the department for better field work.
The Minister also highlighted various schemes being implemented by the Government for rural development like MGNREGA and Himayat.
While speaking on the occasion, HoD of Lifelong Leaning & Extension, University of Mumbai Prof Dalip Patil said the students who participate in the field and extension work should be given grace marks and it should be considered equal to NSS and NCC.
HoD of Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, University of Delhi Prof J P Dubey stressed that rural development cannot be understood if it is not linked with extension work and it is really important that the students of rural development understand the field.
He further said that rural development without reaching the field is inappropriate and it is very important to link rural development with urban development.
Dean Academic Affairs University of Jammu Prof Deshbandhu Gupta, HoD Director of Lifelong Learning University of Jammu Dr Kavita Suri, University faculty and various other administrative officers were present on the occasion.
