IAF’s Jumbo cargo plane taxied at military airfield for last two months in Thoise
damaged its one wing and a propeller after returning from a night sortie




Dishkit (Nubra), February 23, (Scoop News)-An Air Force cargo plane, ‘Super Hercules’ was partially damaged after hitting a pole and some nearby barracks while taxiing on the tarmac in military air field at Thoise in Nubra Valley after returning from a night sortie, well informed sources said .


“The airport has a limited space for huge (Jumbo) planes to manoeuvre. While taxiing itself on the tarmac, when one of its wings and propeller hit a pole and some nearby structures,” they added.


A high level Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been ordered to conduct investigation to the December 13 accident of last year in which C-130J Super Hercules was badly damaged at Thoise airfield.


Earlier, the plane had successfully landed at military airfields in Daulat Beg Oldi and Chushul areas in Ladakh region. Thoise airfield serves as a base for Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battle ground, for supplies of essential items of daily use for the troops posted there.


Incidentally, Leh in Ladakh region has a distinction of having world’s highest civil airport located at an elevation of over 11,000 feet above the sea level.


India has bought about half a dozen Super Hercules C-130J from US and had lost one in an accident after it crashed near Gwalior in March 2014 during a tactical low level training sortie resulting in some fatal casualties then....
