Nomos trounce Malaysia and Philippine, improve their performance in tournament at Bangkok
Sports Council provides Rs 7 lakh for ice rink


Leh (Ladakh), March 20, (Scoop News)-All women Ice Hockey players from Ladakh who represented India in Asia Challenge Women Ice Hockey Cup-2017 were accorded a rousing reception at Koshuk Bakula Rimpoche Airport in Leh on their return from Bangkok.

These Nomos are playing for different ice hockey clubs in the region and had formed ‘Ladakh Women’s Ice Hockey Foundation’ (LWIHF) two years back to boost the game and provide an arena for women players of Ladakh.

Scores of supporters, relatives, members of various women groups, Hill Council members and others received them in a traditional way by offering Khataks on their arrival at Leh airport.

The team got fourth spot in the weeklong tournament by beating Malaysia and Philippine. However, they lost against Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates.

The tournament was played between March 7 and March 15 at Bangkok in which Tsewang Chuskit and Chonzom Angmo excelled and their performance was acknowledged as most valuable player and as the best player of Indian team respectively.

Team captain, Rinchen Dolma, said their performance this year were superior as compared to previous years. She said the state Sports Council had also approved a financial assistance of rupees seven lakh for the completion of ice hockey rink in Leh.
