Awareness programme held at SKIMS Bemina
Srinagar, March 24, (Scoop News)-: To mark the World Tuberculosis Day 2017 under the global theme “Unite to end TB”, the Department of Community Medicine, SKIMS Bemina, today organized an awareness programme about tuberculosis and the status of its prevention and cure.
Speaking on the occasion, Director SKIMS, Dr. A G Ahangar, called for taking measures to prevent spreading of TB, adding that despite medical advances, formidable challenges continue to prevail. He said this day provides an opportunity to use our collective efforts to eradicate TB.
Describing TB as an enormous public health threat, Principal Medical College SKIMS Bemina, Dr Riyaz Ahmad Untoo, said it is time to fix health service delivery gaps to get rid of the disease. He said it is imperative that treatment and diagnostic tests should be accessible to each and every person affected by TB.
On the occasion, experts gave detailed presentation about prevention, management and treatment of TB. Poster presentation and quiz competition were also organized during the programme and awards distributed among winners.
Pertinently, this year, WHO has placed special focus on uniting efforts to “Leave No One Behind”, including actions to address stigma, discrimination, marginalization and overcome barriers to have access to its treatment.
