Visiting delegates of Leh BJP submit a memorandum to Centre listing various pending issues
satisfied with focused attention




New Delhi, March 26, (Scoop News Bureau)-A delegation of Bharitya Jantan Party (BJP) of Leh unit led by party president, Tsewang Gonbo, met Union Minister of State (Mos-PMO), Dr Jintendra Singh, and presented a memorandum to him listing out various pending demands of the region.


Dr Singh assured the members of visiting delegation that Central Government led by Narindra Modi confers highest priority on remote and peripheral areas of the country whether is Ladakh or Northeast or island territories. He informed the delegates how Prime Minister himself would take personal interest and enquire about the follow up of various projects in these distant areas.


Apprising party delegates, the minister regretted that due to some logistic constraints, despite taking up the issue of having an exam centre at Leh with Union Public Service Commission last year, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) could not have it established for holding of IAS/ Civil service.


Dr Singh, however, affirmed that the government is keen to provide all facility to the youth of the region to avail of the same opportunities as available to the youth in the rest of the country.


Referring to the issue of air-connectivity, the minister said that he has taken up with Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, the feasibility of operating several daily flights between Leh and other destinations.


He even alluded to stranded passengers at Leh due to inclement weather last month and of receiving a phone call from local lawmaker, Nawang Rigzin Jora, following which he took up the matter with the concerned ministry, who promptly arranged an additional air flight.


The minister also informed the members of the delegation that the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to have taken up the project of Zojila Tunnel on priority basis and in spite of several limitations, the work on the project is expected to commence in the near future.


The visiting emissaries were, however, pleased to convey that in the last two to three years, the border region had received focused attention from the Central Government, in contrast to discrimination being meted out to them earlier....
