DGP reviews functioning of police establishments
Stresses to ponder more welfare schemes
Jammu,March 27, (Scoop News)- In order to discuss the working of police establishments and enhance more facilities for the cops and families of police martyrs, PHQ has started open discussions to revisit the existing welfare schemes and deliberate on to introduce more initiatives.
This was disclosed by the Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid, while chairing a joint meeting of State Level Executive and Managing Committees of Police Parivar, at Police Headquarters (PHQ)) here today. The meeting was convened to review the functioning of Police Public Schools, Police Hospitals and Police Parivar Fund.
Dr. Vaid while dwelling on the welfare initiatives taken in the recent years, to bring efficiency in the working of police establishments, said that our thrust has always remained to improve performance of all establishments including educational institutions. He said that JKP is grappling with the daunting task of the welfare of police personnel, especially the martyrs’ families and we have embarked upon a massive programme to educate children and help women start their own income generating units. Rehabilitation of the martyr’s wives, besides the retired personnel has been top on the agenda and a beginning has already been made to ponder and introduce innovative schemes.
DGP sought reports from members of Board of Administration regarding the functioning of Police Public Schools in providing quality education. He said that our focus should be to upgrade the standards of education in these schools, reiterating commitment to work for ameliorating the lot of police families. Organization has been working in other fields of providing quality education to police wards with impetus on modern academics based on information technology, said the DGP. He hoped that these measures would enable the children to attain academic excellence, besides facing the challenges of the present day world with more vigorous and confidence.
Reviewing the working of Police Hospitals at Srinagar and Jammu, Dr. Vaid said that the twin hospitals have been upgraded with state-of-art equipment to provide better health care to the cops and their families. Opening of Pardhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra in police hospitals was also discussed in order to provide quality medicines to the patients at cheaper rates.
Discussing the status of Police Parivar Fund, the DGP said that the Fund has been established to provide a succor to the families of police martyrs and various schemes have been introduced to benefit these families. He said that various effective measures have been taken by the department to generate new ideas and sources for making effective improvements in the working of the Fund. Skill development courses for the school dropouts and unemployed wards of police personnel would be introduced in the police establishment centers for their rehabilitation.
The meeting discussed various new ideas and initiatives and sought suggestions before they are introduced for implementation which includes group health insurance policy for cops, adaptation of new designs and fabrications of items in police family welfare centers and introduction of sports as career for students in police public schools by posting trained coaches. SPO, who are part of the force needs to be taken care while implementing the health insurance policy, asked the DGP.
Chairperson, J&K Police Wives Welfare Association, Mrs. Bharti Vaid, who was also present in the meeting, gave her valuable suggestions for further improvements in Police Parivar Fund. She said that our focus of area should be to introduce more schemes benefitting the families of police personnel, especially of police martyrs.
Earlier, AIG (Welfare), Mr. Rahul Malik gave a detailed presentation about the functioning of police establishments and the status of existing welfare schemes for the cops.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADsGP, Dilbag Singh, L. Mohanti and AK Choudhary, AIsGP, Dr. SD Singh, Sunil Kumar, Danesh Rana, SL Sharma, SA Watali, JP Singh and SK Gupta, DIsG, Alok Kumar, Nissar Ahmed and Deepak Kumar, DoP, Pawan Gupta, AIsGP, MS Police Hospital Jammu, Principal of PPS Jammu. Other officers participated through video conferencing were IGP, Kashmir, SJM Gillani, Range DIsGP and District Superintendents of police, besides MS Policed Hospital Sgr. and Principal PP School, Srinagar.
