Industry- Academia team visit region, 'Nav Kiran' to work on indigenous solutions to challenges being faced by soldiers in Ladakh and Siachen




Leh (Ladakh), March 29, (Scoop News)-As part of ‘Industry Academia in Support of Indian Army’ a program by Army Design Bureau, an Industry Academia team visited Ladakh between March 13 and 18 this year.


The interaction exposed them to the actual conditions of a soldiers in this region and to have a first-hand experience to realign their work to meet Army’s operating requirements.

The industry - academia team consisted of six representatives from firms specializing in manufacture of defence products and six members from IIT Mumbai, Delhi and Gandhinagar.

They were accompanied by senior Army officers from the Army Design Bureau.

The four days’ program started with an interaction at Fire and Fury Corps wherein they were briefed about various challenges being faced by Army in the region followed by briefing and demonstration on various innovations done in-house under ‘Nav Kiran’ to mitigate the same.

‘Nav Kiran’ is an innovation cell under the aegis of Fire and Fury Corps to encourage generation of new ideas and to facilitate development of in-house solutions to various challenges being faced by soldiers in Ladakh and Saichen.

The academia and industry were impressed by the innovations made under ‘Nav Kiran’ program. The interaction on first day culminated with presentation on problems for which the contribution from Industry-Academia was solicited.
The team then visited forward areas in Saichen and Eastern Ladakh bringing them closer to prevailing operating conditions for a more realistic experience and pragmatic understanding of the environment.
The tour ended with another exhaustive interactive session at Fire and Fury Corps attended by Lieutenant General PJS Pannu, General Officer Commanding Fire and Fury Corps, senior officers of the Corps and technical graduates of the Army serving in Ladakh.
The members of the Academia Industry team narrated their takeaways and information about the problems areas they would work/research in times ahead to workout solutions for meeting challenges being faced by Army in Ladakh.

The Fire & Fury Corps initiative ‘Nav Kiran’ and interaction of Academia Industry has the potential to be a major breakthrough in Indian Army’s quest for self reliance.

This not only harnesses the in-house talent and on ground experience of the Indian Army personnel but also is a step in achieving perfect synergy between the Industry-Academia and the user, required for development of viable equipment/technologies which would enhance the fighting capability of soldiers in real terms.
