CEC Leh flags off long distance races among different category

Leh, April 22, (Scoop News)-The yearlong centenary birth celebration of 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche begins with the 28th Long Distance Race among Boys & Girls of various schools of Leh district in commemoration of legendary figure Bakula Rinpoche at Leh today.
Organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports with the sponsorship of J&K Bank Ltd. Leh, the long distance races among different category was flagged off by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo from Petro Pump Leh early in the morning.
Later, during the award ceremony function held at Indoor Stadium Leh which was presided by CEC, LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo as the chief guest gave away the prizes to the position holders under the age group of 14, 17 and 19 categories (Boys and Girls). Among other present during the award ceremony function were Executive Councilor for Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Executive Councilor for Tourism Tsering Sandup and Chief Education Officer, Leh Surindar Kumar.

Addressing the gathering, CEC Dr. Dawa expressed great happiness for dedicating the annual marathon event on the name of 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. Praising students for their enthusiastic participation in the event, Dr. Dawa said that athletes of Ladakh have successfully represented nation in Mountaineering expedition, marathon and Ice Hockey which proved that athletes of Ladakh has immanence potential in sports and stressed on the importance of participation in any event. Congratulating podium finishers, Dr. Dawa hoped that they will participate at district, state and national levels in months to come. Assuring every possible support from Hill Council to improve sport facilities and to revive sport culture in the district, Dr. Dawa said that Council has already enhanced the sport budget this year and appealed sport teachers to inculcate sportsmanship among students.

Talking about the ill effects of junk foods especially in context with Ladakh region, Dr. Dawa appealed future generation of Ladakh to eat traditional and local foods and avoid junk/packed foods.
In the 12 Km under 19 boys long distance running, all the top five positions was conquered by the boys of Lamdon Senior Secondary School, Leh. Jigmet Stobdan clocked 46:57:49 to beg first position followed by Khadim Hussain 48:08:31 and Sonam Targyas 48:19:55. Likewise, in the 6 Km under 14 Girls, Lamdon School Shey clinched all the top five positions. Sonam Wangmo finished the line in 28:30:34 while as Sonam Chuskit and Padma Ladol clocked 28:49:84 and 29:05:65 respectively to bagged the first three positions.
In the under 19 girls (10 km), Tashi Ladol of Higher Secondary School Khaltsi bagged first position by finishing the line in 45:21 timing and Disket Dolma of Girls
Higher Secondary School, Leh (45:42) and Yangzin Dolma of Lamdon Senior Secondary School, Leh ( 50:49) bagged second and third position respectively.
In the under 17 Boys ( 10 Km), Stanzin Namdol of Druk Padma Karpo School Shey clocked 42:44:30 to clinch first position while as Padma Rigzen and Tsewang Namgial of Mahabodi School bagged second and third positions respectively.
In the under 17 Girls ( 8 km), Menika Tamang High School Shey ( 37:30:05) stood first while as Fahina Kousar of IPS ( 38:46:07) and Rigzen Wangmo ( 39:18:03) bagged second and third positions respectively. In the under 14- Boys ( 8 Km), Madhu Sudan of Govt. Middle School Sangkar bagged first position while as Jang Badhur of Govt. Middle School Phey and Abdul Rauf of Govt. Middle School Leh bagged second and third positions respectively.
