JKPCC condemns attack on a nomadic family near Reasi
lashes out at govt over its failure to protect nomads

Jammu, April 26, (Scoop News)-Congress party strongly condemns the attack on nomad family in Reasi and expresses concern over release of 10 assailants on bail.

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, JK Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) general secretaries Shahnawaz Choudhary and Choudhary Shah Mohd. (Advocate) strongly condemned the attack on nomadic family at Reasi and lambasted the state govt. for its failure to protect the innocent citizens.

They expressed concern over the manhandling of the poor nomadic family in which the accused persons in police presence carried out attack on them.

"Police personnel did nothing to control the situation and to save the lives of the nomads instead they facilitated the attack on them by becoming mute spectators," they alleged.

Even as eleven persons involved in attack on the nomads were arrested, ten of them have been released from the police custody on bail which shows how much concerned the government is about the safety of innocent people and supports right wing people who are hell bent to hurt communal brotherhood, the congress leaders said.

They appealed the people of different section of society to maintain communal harmony among themselves. “The situation has become alarming after the coalition government especially BJP has come to power. They have lone motive to divide society for their political interests. This type of politics will damage basic fabric of the society and has created mistrust among the people believing in different faiths,” they added.

They said that the government should take an initiative and book the alleged ‘cow vigilantes’ under PSA to set an example so that such indents are not repeated in future.

They said that under this government, such incidents have been taking place in Jammu region particularly, while the Government has totally failed to save lives and property of the victims.

“Gujjars nomads are poor people. They move in summer pastures along with their cattles and live stocks for their survival. The government should provide them protection from such attacks,” they added.

Expressing serious concern over repeated attacks on Gujjars-Bakerwals in Jammu division, they said that there seems to be a planned effort to divide the people of the state on religious lines which will have grave livelihood consequences for Gujjars-Bakerwals who traverse different regions of the state biannually.

They demanded adequate security arrangements on national highway and other traditional routes for safe movement of tribal people....
