Ladakhi’s join hands to celebrate birth centenary of Kashuk Bakula on May 19
invite extended to PM, final touches being given to a series of programmes to spread maximum awareness of Rinpoche



Leh(Ladakh), April 27, (Scoop News)-In connection with the birth centenary celebrations of Rinpoche Kaushak Bakula on May 19, several social, religious and political groups have joined hands during a meeting at Pethub Gonpa School to take stock of arrangements.

Different committees were also formed during the meeting and the main organizing committee will be headed by Geshes Konchok Wogdus and assisted by Padma Shree Morup Namgyal as vice chairman.

While welcoming the members, Wangdus highlighted the contribution of the esteemed figure who led the people of Ladakh for over five decades both as political as well as religious leader.

It was proposed to organize different programmes and educational activities throughout the year by different organizations, religious communities, schools and colleges to pay rich tributes to Bakula Rinpoche.

It was decided in the meeting that women organizations will be assigned with the Phoks and Kalchor reception. Anjuman Immamiya will arrange Argon Darches (Archery). There will be Photo exhibitions LAMO. All India Radio and Door Darshan Leh will highlight the events about Kashuk Bakula’s contribution to spread maximum awareness. Educational institutions will also conduct various activities in the name of Rinpoche.

Speaking during the meeting, chairman of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Dr Sonam Dawa, told the participants that the main function on May 19 will be the departmental function and the Council had already sent request to
Prime Minister’s Office to invite Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to be the chief guest during the main function. He said that May 19 will be a momentous day full of various activities such as cultural programmes at Polo Ground, seminars, illuminating Spituk Monastery and KBR Airport, Fortis Hospital medical camp and foundation stone laying ceremony of new airport terminal expansion.

Promising of his cooperation and support for making the event a grand success, president Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Tsewang Thinles, advocated to ensure making the programme in a proper manner without clashing with other activities. LBA Women president, Tsewang Dolma, however, pleaded to declare dry day during the celebrations.

President Christian Association, Dechen Chamba, declared a scholarship to a student from nursery to higher class on the name of Rinpoche. Ashraf Ali Barcha, president Anjuman Immamiya said that Kashuk Bakula was known for his secular image therefore efforts should be made to project his secular image which is the need of the hour. Morup Namgyal urged the monastery representatives to allow visitors to every Gonpa on May 19 on complimentary basis.

President District Congress Committee (DCC), Tsering Samphel, recommended inclusion of all lawmakers and councilors of the region as the organizing committee members.
