Priya Sethi inaugurates exhibition to mark International Museum Day
JK Museums speak: History, Culture and Ethos released
Jammu,May 20, (Scoop News)- As part of celebrations to mark International Museum day, Minister of Culture, School Education and Tourism inaugurated a special exhibition at Dogra Art Museum Jammu on 19th May 2017 after a similar successful exhibition in SPS Museum Srinagar.
In the galaxy of art and heritage lovers, the Minster expressed the importance of International Museum Day as a movement as well as a platform to make the citizens aware of their rich past and inculcate in them a sense to preserve it for posterity. The Minister also assured of every possible assistance from the Government to protect the Heritage of the State existing in any form whether tangible or intangible.
The Minister also released a book titled J&K Museums speak: History, Culture and Ethos, authored and edited by Mohammad Shafi Zahid Director of the department.
Similarly an event was celebrated at SPS Museum on 18th May 2017 wherein the exhibition was inaugurated by Secretary to Government Department of Culture Dilshada Khan (IAS) at SPS Museum wherein Kushan Gold Coins, Sultanate Coins, Mughal Coins, Kashmir Bronze, Manuscripts, Astro Lobe, Tiles of ancients period etc were showcased with detailed information and history of the objects.
The mega event was attended by number of intellectuals, cultural activists, scholars and thousands of school children. The speakers on the event expressing their concern over the status of heritage sites gave their suggestions with regard to its preservation. The Secretary gave a detailed account of the steps the Government is taking towards the preservation of the heritage of the state, which include declaration of Archaeological Monuments and Sites as State Protected, heritage sites and documentation of manuscripts as well as old records.
The Director while thanking the participants gave a brief account of the departmental activities which include exhibitions, publications, seminars, workshops etc. to make the general public aware of their rich heritage. He also appealed to the Principals of all schools both Government and Private and Head of other Educational Intuitions, to make museum tour part of their syllabus, so that every student of the state visits the museums and get education through museum tours....
