CEC LAHDC visits Gonpa village, inspects site for construction of cultural complex


Leh, May 22, (Scoop News)-The CEC LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo today visited Gonpa village and inspected the site for construction of Dung-rten cultural complex at village gonpa along with EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus.

On behalf of the welfare society and inhabitants of Gonpa village the Gonpa Thundel Tsogspa submitted a proposal to CEC requesting for fund arrangements to execute the construction of a cultural complex consisted of a 83 feet high statue of Sakya Muni Buddha, Sangsol desk, meditation centre, guest house, library, park, cafeteria etc. with an estimated cost of Rs. 783.81 lakh. The President Gonpa Thundel Tsogspa explained to CEC that the objective of building this cultural complex is to promote Gonpa for tourist visits and create revenue generation for the youth of this village.

In response Dr. Dawa gave assurance to manage funds for some part of the project. He informed the villagers about a tourist facilitation centre to be built soon in Gonpa village and said that to some extend it will help attract tourist to their village. He also ensured to undertake the upgradation of the Gonpa road in days to come under some scheme. CEC urged the villagers to adopt organic farming as the best medium to attract tourists and for income generation. He stressed on initiating home stays and guest house facilities in the village for which various benefits have been provided by government under different schemes. He also informed about a project being taken by CAZRI to implement in Gonpa and urged the people to work in coordination with representatives from CAZRI and get thorough understanding of the project. CEC said that works have also been undertaken by Council to upgrade milk production and appealed the villagers to rare more of local cows with better quality containing an important component G2 which is missing in Jersey cow. He urged the people to promote milk production which is a promising business.

EC Agriculture informed that a project for organic farming at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crores has been submitted to the government. He added that the Pradan Mantri Sinchaye Yojna and other such schemes will help improve the agriculture sector in Leh district and urged the villager to take full benefit of these schemes.
