Sports is the best form of physical activity: ADC



Leh, May 22, (Scoop News)-The ongoing Inter School Tournament for Middle Schools Leh came to an end today with closing function held at open stadium, opposite council secretariat, Leh. ADC, Leh Moses Kunzang was the chief guest on the occasion and AO, DC Office Leh Jigmet Namgial was the guest of honour. This event was organised to commemorate the centenary of 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche by District Youth Sports and Services Department, Leh. Others present on the occasion were Secretary, J&K Board of School Education Tashi Tundup, District YS&S Officer Tsering Tashi, Zonal Physical Education Officer Leh Abid Ali, PE teachers and students from all the participating schools.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Moses said that to be a part of such tournament reminds of young days and how sports has developed over the time in Leh. He stressed that sports is the best form of physical activity besides it inculcates many qualities like discipline, camaraderie, adjustment and team spirit which plays a big role in live long development of every sports person. He said that good sports infrastructure is developing in Leh and in coming times sports will have a major role to play than just a part of co-curricular activity in schools. He urged the school principals, headmasters, PE teachers to motivate their students to participate in sports activities considering the fact that today sports hold a very promising future career with good income for our children. Mr. Moses sharing his philosophy encouraged to play sports with the spirit that nothing less than first, which he said keep the moral and energy high throughout the game.

A total of 23 Middle Schools including 21 Government Middle Schools from 5 blocks of Leh, Kharu, Chuchot, Durbok and Nyoma and two private schools namely Riglam School and New Millennium School participated in this tournament organised at NDS sports complex, Leh. The concluding match of Handball was played between Middle School Phey and Middle School Leh and the former won the match by 3 goals.

Later, medals and prizes for different sporting events held during the tournament were distributed to the winning schools and individual winners. A cultural program was also presented by students of KGBV Middle School, Nyoma.
