Army organizes 'North Kashmir Kickboxing Championship 2017-18'

Bandipora, May 27, (Scoop News)-With a view to encourage young budding talent in martial arts and promote a culture of sports and physical fitness among the young generation, Army base Bandipora organised 'North Kashmir Kickboxing Championship 2017-18' at Army Goodwill School Bandipora from 24-26 May 2017.The event was organised for three main age categories namely under 14 years, under 17 years and over 18 years with 6 yrs old Shaikh Hamza, the youngest competitor. The age categories were further divided into 14 weight categories for boys and girls thus making a total of 28 weight category. A total of 253 competitors including 158 boys and 95 girls hailing from different districts of North Kashmir participated in the event. Ali Sports Academy team secured the team winner trophy, AGS Bandipora team secured team first runner-up trophy while Budgam team secured second runner-up trophy.

During a total of 211 bouts played over three days of the tournament competitors displayed a great example of stamina, courage and sportsmanship. Cash prizes were awarded to winners and runners up teams of each category alongwith gold and silver medals. The event was concluded with snacks and informal interaction by competitors with Army personnel. Army's initiative in organising this event was unequivocally appreciated by the local population. Mir Murtaza a girl participant said that such a platform is a welcome step and thanked the Army for organising the event. It is pertinent to note that Tajamul Islam who won the world Kick Boxing championship also hails from Bandipora.
