Govt making concerted efforts to boost dairy industry: Kohli
Jammu, May 27, (Scoop News)- Government is making concerted efforts for promotion of livestock and dairy industry by providing adequate marketing facilities to the farmers to help them in getting adequate returns on the produce.
This was stated by Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli while speaking during a convention organized by Jammu Live Stock and Breeding Cooperative limited for the benefit of dairy farmers.
Director Animal Husbandry, SK Abrol, Director Sheep Husbandry, Director Fisheries and other senior officers of the Departments were also present on the occasion. Besides Chairman Jammu livestock and breeding cooperative limited, Rajesh Bittu, General Secretary, Vikrant Dogra, representative of Softek Institute, Aashiq Wani, dairy farmers, Punjab Singh and Tejinder Singh and representatives of various organizations also attended the convention.
The Minister stressed to enhance milk production by making use of latest technology in the field and said that cooperative societies can play a major role in making the sector a financially rewarding business avenue.
He further stated that the department should work in synergy with other departments to develop modern dairies that will give a fillip to milk production in the state and make dairy farming an economically viable occupation for the people.
Underscoring the need for providing self employment opportunities in the diary and other related sectors, to the rural masses especially the youth, the Minister asked for creating mass awareness among the stakeholders so that more and more people avail the benefits of welfare schemes of the department.
The Minister maintained that diary, fisheries and other related sectors have vast potential to provide employment avenues and ensure socio-economic development of people.
On the occasion, the representatives of various organizations projected their demands including setting up of milk booths, veterinary doctors in sub-centers to provide proper medical treatments to their livestock, quality check of cattle feed, insurance of livestock and establishing the National Diary Institute Center in Jammu district.
Responding to the projected demands, Minister assured them that their demands will be redressed on priority.
