Maiden group of pilgrims leave for Chota Kailash pilgrimage in Demchok,
Dorjay and Dr Dawa flags off first batch.

Jammu, June 23, (Scoop News)-Dozens of pilgrims were flagged off by state Cooperative Minister, Tsering Dorjay Lakrook, and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Dr Sonam Dawa for Chota Kailash near Demchok along Indo-China border.

Addressing the inaugural function, Dorjay said that such pilgrimage ought to have started long time ago as China already had been sending tourists and foreigners to the last border point on their side. He said the pilgrimage could prevent the migration of the native people to urban areas as their living conditions are very tough and challenging.

The people inhibiting the area are economically backward. The tourism will improve their living standard and they would prefer to stay put at their native places in view of the increased circulation of money, he added.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Dawa said that Chota Kailash is a holy place for both Hindus an Buddhist community and this pilgrimage will not only help in promoting tourism in Ladakh region but also helps in national integration.

He hoped that many more pilgrims from different parts of the country will visit Chota Kailash pilgrimage in future.

Over 50 devotees from different parts of India are taking part in the pilgrimage under the banner of Laghu Yudyog Bharati (LYB) and included Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) state secretary, Jugal Kishore Gupta, All India president (LYB), Om Prakash Mittal, state LYB president and general secretary, Rajindra Gupta and Parveen Pargal.

They appreciated the support and initiatives for making the necessary arrangements besides obtaining requisite permission for them from the Union Home Ministry and the state government and hoped the pilgrimage will continue in huge numbers in future.
