Ramban administration proposes strict measures to avert accidents
DC chairs District Road Safety Committee meet
Ramban , July 17, (Scoop News)- Deputy Commissioner, Tariq Hussain Ganai today convened meeting of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) and took several important decisions to avert accidents and ensure smooth movement of traffic on National Highway and other roads of the district.
After threadbare deliberations, the DC constituted checking squad team comprising ARTO, Tehsildar concerned, Dy SP Traffic Police alongwith representatives of construction companies to identify the vulnerable and accident prone stretches and to recommend corrective measures.
Chief Planning Officer (CPO), Uttam Singh, ARTO Shami Kumar, CMO, Saif –ud-Din Khan, XENs besides other concerned officers and representatives of construction companies attended the meeting.
Threadbare discussion was held on the issues like traffic management, road maintenance, availability of cranes and ambulance provision of men and machinery at the sliding zones, checking of the vehicles, strict-action mechanism and proper coordination among traffic police, transport authorities and health department.
The DC instructed the checking squad to take strict action against public transport operators found violating road safety norms including overloading, rash driving, fitness of vehicles, to make travelling the roads safe.
The DC also emphasized on involving the teams of students and volunteers including NCC squads for making the public vigilant and active to curb the practice of underage and unsafe driving.
The DC directed the concerned authorities to establish road safety clubs in schools and colleges to start campaign to educate young drivers about Road Safety Rules and identify erring drivers and pasting slips on their vehicles. He also directed ARTO to conduct road safety awareness camps on fortnightly basis.
To strengthen health services, the DC directed road maintaining agencies to provide more ambulances to the health department. He also instructed them for installing crash barriers, parapets, sign boards and hoardings at vulnerable locations from Nashri to Banihal and also at other accident prone areas on various roads.
Earlier, ARTO and Dy SP Traffic apprised the DC about various measures taken to prevent the road accidents and promote habits of safe driving among the drivers.
