LOC Shelling: 4000 migrants in 6 relief camps
Rajouri, July 20, (Scoop News)- District Administration, Rajouri established a new relief camp in wake of fresh migration triggered by repeated shelling in forward areas. The number of migrants in relief camps has crossed 4000. Deputy Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary reviewed the amenities being provided in relief camps and arrangements for education of migrant students.
A total number of 961 families comprised of 3812 persons have been accommodated in 6 relief camps. Sixth relief camps has been established at Govt Middle School, Gania around 10KM from Nowshera. In Gania relief camp 121 families comprised of 427 persons have been accommodated. Meanwhile 45 families comprised of 204 persons have been accommodated in private houses.
Administration has provided ration, fire wood, bedding, power supply including GenSets, potable drinking water, sanitation, table fans, first aid and other basic facilities at all the camps. Anganwadi Centres have been opened in camps and alternate classes for students have also been started in view of closure of schools. It is pertinent to mention here that 5 relief camps were established on May 11 2017 due to heavy shelling by Pakistan army in Nowshera sector.
A deputation of more than 300 migrants met the Deputy Commissioner and reiterated the demand for allotment of 5 Marla plot and cash relief at par with Kashmiri migrants as well as relaxation in educational norms and special provision for recruitment on the grounds of losses to education due to repeated shelling. The migrants appreciated the prompt response of administration in rescue and the arrangements made at the relief camps. They were assured that demands of plot allotment , reservation and education will be taken up with the State Government in due course of time.
More than 110 livestock has been reported dead and two dozen houses damaged. A total number of 35 structures including Private houses, Govt buildings including schools and structures were damaged in recent mortar shelling in Nowshera. No fresh incident of ceasefire violation was reported during the day.
