DDMA empanels 300 volunteers for Disaster Management
Rajouri, July 20, (Scoop News)-District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Rajouri has empanelled 300 youth volunteers as first line of defence of Disaster Management at village level. A workshop was conducted for volunteers selected for training and capacity building in Phase-I.
The volunteers selected for Phase-I of training and induction include 18 from Tehsil Nowshera, 10 from Qila Darhal, 11 from Manjakote, 11 from Khwas, 09 from Koteranka, 20 from Tryath, 16 from Kalakote, 09 from Darhal, 17 from Rajouri, 14 from Sunderbani, 12 from Beripattan, 15 from Siot and 13 from Thanamandi. More than 220 volunteers attended the workshop whileas 175 have been selected for phase-I.
Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (Deputy Commissioner), Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary addressed the volunteers and briefed them about training programmes, capacity building, coordination with departments and provision of kits for disaster response. He informed that extensive training of volunteers will be conducted at Tehsil and District level as well as at specialised institutions. The volunteers will also have regular coordination with departments for disaster risk mitigation, response, rescue, evacuation and relief and rehabilitation.
Dr Shahid emphasised on a roadmap for reviving Civil Defence in the district and effective coordination of volunteers of DDMA with CD wardens, volunteers and teams. He said that DDMA has initiated a process for procurement of vital rescue equipments to be provided to field teams for prompt response in cases of road accidents, natural disasters and calamities.
District Administration will train 125 volunteers in Phase-II on similar pattern for which Tehsildars have been directed to recommend additional candidates following a due process. The volunteers will be provided I-Cards and certificates after completion of training and will be further empanelled with departments. These volunteers will serve as disaster response community force. Directorate of Disaster Management will also conducted training programmes for these volunteers at state level. Revenue Department has been designated at Nodal Agency for coordination with and utilising services of volunteers apart from training and capacity building.
Asstt Commissioner Revenue Paramjeet Singh, Civil Defence Warden K K Langar, DySP Civil Defence, Tehsildars and coordinators from various Tehsils attended the induction workshop.
