JNEG holds meeting,highlights issues relating to newspapers


Jammu, July 23, (Scoop News)-The Jammu Newspapers Editors Guild held a meeting here the other day wherein several newspaper Owners and Editors participated and discussed the matters relating to newspapers entrepreneurs in Jammu.


The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Raj Daluja Editor of STATE TIMES and A K Sawhney Chief Patron JOURNEYLINE presided over the meeting.


The participants included Bansi Lal Gupta - Editor EARLY TIMES, Ram Kumar Dubey, Editor KATTU SATYA, Vijay Gupta, Editor YOUNG BITES, Adarsh Pal Gupta, Editor Peer Panchal Newsline, Vishal Chopra Editor - JAMMU METRO, Rajiv Mahajan - Editor TOP NEWS OF J&K, Subash Mehra, Editor - JAMMU JOTTING, Vinod Kumar- Editor TRULY TIMES, Ravinder Singh, Editor FIRST Reporter, Deepak Handa, Editor EARLY POST, Syed Iqbal Kazmi, Editor UDAAN, Siddarth Daluja from STATE TIMES, Amit Sawhney, Editor JOURNEY LINE.

A K Sawhney briefed the participants about the visit of Sub Committee of Press Council of India to Srinagar and informed that Mr Daluja and he had called upon the said Sub Committee on invitation and highlighted the problems of owners, Publishers and Editors of daily newspapers of Jammu.


He thanked Raj Daluja for joining the Guild of Jammu Newspapers Editors and Owners and other participants. He said that all should be taken on board and the Guild should be strengthened. He said that all should unite and raise the issues with the Govt. and the Union Govt/ DAVP or RNI and Press Council of India. He also highlighted the role of the Guild members in the Press Advisory committee which is likely to be formed by the Govt in near future.


Iqbal Kazmi, Owner and Editor of Daily Udaan welcomed such a meeting and the unity amongst the owners and Editors of the newspapers is need of the hour. He endorsed the statement of Mr Sawhney and said that the newspapers owners are facing lot of difficulties like getting land for setting up the printing units, Offices for the press and newspapers in Jammu and Srinagar. He hailed the strengthening of the Guild and sought that they all should unite and raise common issues from this platform. He highlighted the discrimination in empanelment by Information Department.


Ravinder Singh, Editor First Reporter also hailed the meeting of all doyens of the Jammu based newspapers and highlighted the discrimination with Jammu based newspapers in the payments and advertisement distribution issue. He also said that funds of the Jammu newspapers are scarce and lesser than the counterparts in Kashmir. He hailed the unity move of the owners and said issues should be discussed and taken on board and be taken as challenge.


Subash Mehra, Editor Jammu Jotting welcomed such a meeting and the unity amongst the owners and Editors of the newspapers is need of the hour.


Vinod Kumar Editor of Truly Times also spoke and hailed the unification move of all the Editors under the umbrella of Jammu Newspapers Editors Guild and hoped that under the President ship of Mr Sawhney and Chairmanship of Mr Daluja the issues would be resolved.


Vishal Chopra Editor of Jammu Metro welcomed the meeting and thanked Mr Sawhney and Mr Daluja of taking the initiative and informed about the problems of the growing newspapers. He said that under the Guild these issues can be taken care of by the committee members.


Adarsh Pal Gupta, Editor of Peer Panchal Newsline also spoke and informed that earlier also unity efforts were made and this effort too was welcome. He said that there are many issues like DAVP, RNI, Information and accreditations etc which need to be resolved. He said that unitedly the Press Council of India can be called upon and informed about problems of the editors/owners.


Rajeev Mahajan Editor of Top News also spoke and castigated the functioning of the Information Department. He said that Editors are not invited whileas the journalist employees are invited at important Govt functions and conferences. He demanded that Editors should be ISPo facto accredited journalists and in the rules be amended.


Ram Kumar Dubey Editor of Kattu Satya, exhorted upon all the participants to join the Guild and all agreed on the same unanimously and agreed to work under the Chairmanship of Mr Daluja and President ship of Mr Sawhney. He requested all to come on board and tread the Guild on the path of unity and brotherhood.


Finally Mr Daluja while addressing the participants thanked for joining the Guild and reposing faith in the president-ship of Mr Sawhney and under his chairmanship. He said that issues can be taken care of and all must unite and highlight the issues in a united and joint manner. He said that newspaper Publishers and Editor is a tree and the other sections like reporters, journalists, marketing, and press staff are its branches. All the members are entrepreneurs who have invested crores and lakhs in the field and providing employment to many but are not getting due respect and dignity from the Information Deptt, Police and other Govt wings, the Guild will strive for the respect and dignity of members.


Finally the participants unanimously hailed the unification and endorsed the president ship and chairmanship and it was decided that a committee would be formed to add the new members with consensus.


Unanimous resolution was passed by the members to constitute a four members committee which will formulate guidelines for the membership of the Guild. Further they resolved that JNG will take necessary steps to purpose the names of the members who will participate in the Advisory Committee being formulated by J&K Government. It was also resolved to highlight problems of the members, Owners and Editors to the Press Council of India and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Information Minister Govt of India.



Mr Sawhney assured the members that all steps will be taken for the betterment of the Guild and its members. Director Information J&K will be apprised of the problems of the members which were highlighted in the meeting. He also assured the members that Press Enclave Concept of Jammu will be bought into the notice of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and likewise the Press Industrial Estate for the owners may be formulated with uninterrupted electricity supply.



President of JNG assured the members that issue of distribution of advertisement which is arbitrarily done will be brought into the notice of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Director Information so that each Newspaper may be issued a category certificate and no discrimination is being done with newspaper.


Mr Sawhney said that distribution of advertisement should be streamlined with a weeks' time by the government failing which the members shall meet and decide the further course of action.
