CUK’s 2-day citizenship training camp begins at Ganderbal

Ganderbal,, August 10, (Scoop News)-A two-day Citizenship Training Camp for Student Teachers organised by the department of Teacher Education, School of Education of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) began at Government College of Physical Education here.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, Coordinator Teacher Education, Prof. Nighat Basu, in charge principal Government College of Physical Education, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad, faculty members and students of the Education department were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the basic objective of higher education is generation, extension, transformation and application of the knowledge. “The basic purpose of education, received from teachers or through latest communication medium including internet is defeated if the same is not implemented on the ground,” Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said, adding that the student teachers have to come out of the classrooms to help the people in redressing their issues.
Stating that there has been manifold increase in different crimes, particularly the crimes against women, he asked the student teachers to rise up to the occasion and fight these wrongdoings under the Citizenship programme. He also hailed the performances of the students.
In his keynote address, Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem, highlighted the importance of organizing the Citizenship camp saying that it gives practical orientation to the students. He said the programme is being carried out within the NCTE framework, which forms an important component in the course curriculum. He said that education is considered as the strongest, sophisticated and most powerful tool for bringing social change and transformation in the society.
In her welcome address, Prof. Nighat Basu highlighted the aims and objectives of holding the Citizenship Training camp. She said the department of Education was working like a family and every faculty member was contributing his best for carrying out different academic activities. She expressed satisfaction in the execution of different academic activities of the department
Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka while speaking on the occasion emphasized that the need of the hour is to develop the ethical standards among the students so that they shall perform their duties and obligations with utmost honesty. He further added that the society at present was witnessing crisis on different fronts and organizing such type of camps was the need of the hour.
In charge principal Government College of Physical Education, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad, thanked the Central University for holding the camp in his college and urged the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir and Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem to organize more such activities in his institution in near future.
Earlier, the programme started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Shabir Ahmad while as Ghulam Hassan recited a Na’at.
Later the students also performed a cultural programme on the occasion.
Ms. Tabassum Zehra and Mr. Manzoor Yousuf conducted the programme proceedings while as Programme in charge, Dr. Syed Zahoor Geelani proposed the vote of thanks.
