President and Army Chief addressing troops, to present ceremonial Presidential Colours to Ladakh Scouts on Sunday.

Leh(Ladakh), August 18, (Scoop News)-President Ram Nath Kovind, who is also the Supreme Commander in Chief of Combined Forces will be arriving Leh on Sunday for his day long visit of strategic Ladakh region.

This will be the first official visit of the President to the border region where he would be addressing troops including Ladakh Scouts on Sunday. Kovind had earlier cancelled his trip to the region in June when he was invited to attend a religious function after his name was announced for the post for the coveted post by the National Development Alliance (NDA).

Incidentally, during his campaign to garner support from the lawmakers of various political parties for his election he had visited Srinagar, earlier.

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Bipin Rawat, will be, however, travelling a day earlier (Saturday) on his three day visit to the region to assess the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LoAC) following a faceoff between two opposing armies near Pongong Lake on India’s Independence Day (August 15) when Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel blocked the intrusion of Chinese troops by forming a human chain.

The Chinese soldiers used their slings in which several Indian soldiers sustained wounds, triggering an immediate response from the Indian troops.

Surprisingly, Chinese troops had taken an aggressive posture during a flag meeting held at Chushul on following day where they even attempted to charge Indian troops for the incident. Pongong incident happened amid a faceoff between two opposing armies in Doklam area near Indo- Bhutan- China trijection since June this year.

CoAS will also be discussing operational preparedness along the LoAC with China.

On August 21, Gen Rawat will be joining the President at a function where both of them will be addressing the troops and presenting ceremonial Presidential colours to one of the units of Ladakh Scouts.

Interestingly, Ladakh Scouts is most decorated regiment of the Indian Army.
