| Dr Ganai urges Government to construct community Bunkers in Poonch | |
Poonch, August 20, (Scoop News)-MLC Dr Ganai urged the Government to consider the recommendation of the State Legislative Council which has passed a resolution for providing 5 Marlas of Land to the families living near Border/LOC. She urged that the prime focus of the State Government is to protect the human Lives. In District Poonch we have nearly 145 kms long area which is falling along LOC, and during recent times we have seen the rise in cross LOC firing/Shelling from Pakistan.
Dr Ganai, today urged the Government to start the work on the construction of Community/ individual bunkers along LOC. Due to unrelenting shelling and firing by Pakistani Rangers along the LoC as well as the IB, our civilian population living close to the line of Control gets subjected to great suffering, loss and dislocation said Dr Ganai.
Dr Shehnaz said that during cross LOC/Border shelling, it becomes a serious matter for the administration to provide a safe shelter for the people residing near Border/ line of control. Usually during Cross LOC shelling, it has been observed that the administration shifts the effected families and provides them shelter in Schools, and this effects the education sector in that area, said Dr Ganai. The matter being of grave nature was brought to the notice of the Defence and Home Ministries and after due consideration, it was approved at the level of Home Ministry that bunkers would be built along the border/LOC which would provide protection to the civilian population when enemy fire and shelling takes place, said Dr Ganai.
Dr Ganai said that the State Government has already submitted a proposal to the Central Government for setting up of 20,125 community type bunkers in 448 identified villages falling along border/LOC, in five border districts of Jammu region including Jammu, Samba and Kathua along the International Border (IB) and Rajouri and Poonch districts along the Line of Control (LOC), and said the construction of bunkers is the long pending demand of lakhs of villagers putting up along the IB and LOC.
While welcoming the State Government for starting the Construction work of Bunkers in Rajouri, Dr Ganai said that the work for construction of Bunkers be taken up in Poonch District also on priority. She urged the State Government to set up the Community bunkers/individual Bunkers at safer places in Poonch District, which should be equipped with power supply, potable drinking water, firewood, first-aid, Provision of ration and community toilets.
