International Youth Day 2017 observed at Kashmir University



Srinagar, August 21, (Scoop News)- J&K State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club of Department of Students Welfare, University of Kashmir organised Poster and Collage Making Competitions and a Blood Donation camp at Gandhi Bhawan, Kashmir University in connection with month long celebration of INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY-2017 which is held on 12th August every year. The programme was held under the guidance and support of Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Project Director, J&K State AIDS Control Society.

The theme for the poster and collage competition was ‘Youth Building Peace’ in which students from various schools and colleges of the valley participated.


Around 100 student volunteers participated in the blood donation camp while as 80 students participated in Poster Making and Collage competition respectively.

While giving away the prizes and distributing certificates amongst the participants Registrar KU Prof Khursheed A Butt who was chief guest at the valedictory ceremony said in his address " The peace which we are trying to find in the outside world is within us and once we start realising this we shall be at peace with ourselves and with others as well."

Earlier Dean School of Social Sciences KU Prof Asifa Jan inaugurated a one-day blood donation camp during which she interacted with the donors which also included student volunteers from different departments of the Varsity.

Dean Students Welfare KU Prof GN Khaki while welcoming the participants informed them about the various activities being held and organized by DSW KU and said "that the aim of such events and programs is to provide a platform to young students to showcase their talent in various fields."


In Poster competition the first prize was bagged by Mohammad Mommin Rafiqui of Burn Hall School While as the second and third prize was bagged by Ms Afifa Makhdoomi from Faculty of Music and Fine Arts and Ms Iqra Altaf from Sanctorum College of Education.
One special prize in this category was won by Anha Sameer from Green Valley Educational Institute.

In Collage making the first prize was won by Ms Shafiya Shafi from Dept of Psychology KU whileas the second and third prize was won by Ms Hyfa Hameed from Amar Singh College and Ms Taimum Qaiser from Dept of Mathematics KU.

One special prize in this category was won by Sheikhzada Faisal Zahoor from Degree College Dooru.

Cultural Officer DSW KU Mr Shahid Ali Khan who is also Coordinator Red Ribbon Club conducted the proceedings of the competition. Mr. Rajesh Sharma and Mr Mukhtar Ahmad Bala (Assistant Directors) from J&K State AIDS Control Society were also present on the occassion.

Mr Iftikar Jaffar, Mr Shafi Chamman and Mr Naushad Gayoor were the judges for the competition.

The event was supported by Gayoor Art Foundation, SAAYA NGO and the Kites Group.
